Hi all, I'm very interested in the M50SV-A1, but none of the suppliers near me have it in stock. I have played with an M51Sn, but was less than happy with the touchpad, it just felt unfriendly, difficult to use, too slippery (I don't know how else to describe it).

Is the M50 touchpad similar in feel to the M51, or is it more like other notebooks?

Is it possible to turn the touchpad media controls permanently off on the M50, I'm sure I'll inadvertently turn it on when using the vertical slider area which would get annoying.

Is screen glare an issue? I'm going to be using it for office/home use (no games or dvd playback :)), with special emphasis on converting my home movies on DV tape to DVD disks.

Aside: When did everyone decide that they needed to see their reflection in their laptop screen anyway? Why is it virtually impossible to get a 4:3 matte screen on a notebook without paying twice the price for a so called "business" notebook with half the performance? Why do we need to see the overhead lights, or what's outside the window reflected on my computer screen? WHO'S RESPONSIBLE? Sorry, just my little rant, I'll have a little lie down now. Maybe have a look at anti-glare covers for my screen.

P.S. Great reviews on this site, well worth reading.

    Hi, welcome to NBR!
To answer your questions, the touchpad on the M50 is different from the M51. Personally, I find the "smoothness" just right and feels similar to any other laptop touchpads.
As for the media controls, yes, you can turn them permanently off if you wish. The Mode button on the top right corner enables/disables the media controls on the touchpad. Or, you can go to your mouse settings to disable the feature altogether (by doing this the Mode button will not work - I think this is what you're looking for).
Although the screen is quite reflective, it is also brighter than normal laptops. (you can read my review here. The brightness makes up for the reflectiveness of the screen. Many people actually enjoy the glossy screen. It provides much more vivid colors and a better movie watching experience IMO. But yes, it does have its disadvantages when working outdoors or in bright lighting conditions.

you know i came across a few touchpads i hated. c90s touchpad is one. first few hours i used it i hated it. After a few days of playing with it i really got used to it and had to recant my rating in the review. I think a touchpad is alot like a new keyboard. I have to jump from laptop to laptop all the time. My main is a small very old 12". everything else i touch i hate. I have no doubt that if i got a new lappy i would hate the keyboard at first but soon will get very used to it and consider it my own. it may be similar with the touchpad
