I bought an ASUS M50SV A1 about 2 years back. The laptop ceases to work now.

When I turn it on, hearing the ASUS startup sounds and windows sounds tells me that the Laptop is running fine, however my screen is completely BLANK.

If I power ON and power OFF the laptop a multiple times, the screen will finally turn on, and then till the laptop is not shutdown/restarted everything will run perfectly. However once its shutdown, I face the same problem, screen goes BLANK.

I've tried plugging in an external monitor and pressing Fn + F6 at boot but that doesn't help either, the laptop turns on but screen is BLANK. If after a few tries the screen on the laptop turns on then even the external monitor will start working.

I've also tried putting the screen at various angles while powering it on however that hasn't helped either.

What must be wrong with the laptop? Is the GPU fried or is the motherboard fried?

Since I don't have any warranty on it now, what would the approx. cost be to have this repaired?

    Thanks for the help :).

Where can I buy the GeForce 9500m GS for ASUS M50SV and how much will it cost?

Also is there any way to repair this without buying the new video card?

The M50 uses Asus's proprietary inverted design, not standard MXM.

Yes I would like to ask the same question. Since the 9650M GT is much cheaper than the original 9500M GS, will the 9650M GT work with my ASUS M50SV A1?

Looks like I've solved the problem. I put some pressure on the left palm rest (thats where the graphics card sits) a couple of times while starting the laptop and it started up on first try. Now seems like its fixed, I dont even need to put pressure before starting, it just works normally.

I am currently having the same problem the OP is having. I use an external monitor for output and after a restart, the screen just went blank even on the bootup. The laptop would be able to load into Windows 7, and I would be able to login from the sounds it's making.

I tried plugging out using HDMI and VGA port, both doesn't work. And obviously the main screen is blank. About a year ago, the backlit on this laptop crapped out on me and it was covered under warranty. But this time, there isn't even anything displaying at all.

I opened up the laptop to clean up the dust and stuff, and I tried the pressure thing that the OP did to get it working. But all didn't work for me...

tl;dr: Screen isn't working, don't know if it's a GPU problem or not. Laptop is able to boot in.
