I've had an ASUS M51 A for about 6 months now and it's been great, no problems so far. But recently, when it's plugged in it gets really hot, really quickly, in the area near where the adapter goes in. Then the fan is really loud cos its working overtime to keep it cool. As soon as I take the adapter out and run it on battery, it cools right down and becomes a lot quieter.

Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Also, I'm a little worried because my last laptop became unusable for the same reason. It was a Fujitsu-Siemens, I'd had it about 4 years, then it went all faulty on the inside and whenever I plugged it in it would get incredibly hot and I took it to a store and got told to stop using it because something had broken inside and would be REALLY expensive to fix and I don't want that happening with this.

Could be that the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU are disinterrogating, however that would be unlikely because thermal paste is suppose to last for at least 3 years....

You should get some compressed air and shoot it around the heat sink to get rid of the build up of dust. And if that doesn't help you should reapply thermal paste.
