OK. So, a little background. I'm going to be a freshman in college next year, and I know I want an ASUS. I've been really happy with all of their products that I have owned, and my Dell E1705 is simply too big and old to bring w/ me. It's got the power, but the battery is shot and its gigantic; so I will be selling it here pretty quick. So I've been looking at the UL30VT, the UL80VT, and the UL30JC. But that's where I'm lost; with all the various versions! I'm looking for something that gives good performance, but the most demanding game I play is the Sims 3  Long battery life is a must, and these are all fairly small models. I would like the optical drive, but I'm a bit scared off by the UL80VT's build quality rumors. Any suggestions, or complete other models? Max price ceiling is $1000. Thanks!

UL30VT and UL80VT both come with an ultralight Core 2 Duo SU7300 and a switchable Intel GMA 4500/nVidia 210m. The U30JC has a slighty stronger Core i3 CPU and a slightly more powerful (maybe) nVidia 310m. All three models are supposed to have pretty good battery life.

The U35JC-A1 is also a good-looking model for your needs. The N82JQ-A1 is out of your projected budget, but it's a very powerful 14-incher.

Hell, look through here and see what you like.

Well, I think the UL30VT and U35JC are out because they don't have disk drives. The UL80VT is what i'm leaning towards at the moment, but the power of the U30JC is nagging in the back of my mind. I hate decisions :(

So, something else that I just thought of. Do these models have a lock slot? Thats a fairly important feature for me.

    EDIT

So, I have decided on the U30JC. But I don't know which suffix. A1, A2B, B1. There are too many!
