I purchased an ASUS N53JF-XE1 notebook in Dec. 2010, but had to leave town and just got around to unboxing it and noticed this obvious manufacturing defect.

Because it is beyond the 30 days return policy of the retailer, I can't exchange it for another. But my concern is with the type of defect, it appears that the bushed metal applique (about 1/32" thick) which is glued onto the case is not sized correctly. I can send it in for service because it is still under warranty, but if the bubble which is raised in the middle above the touchpad were glued down, I am concerned that the stress would only be transferred to another area which would eventually pop up. The metal applique is placed on the notebook correctly and flush with the left and right side. Has anyone else seen this defect with their ASUS notebook and how did you resolve it?
