Hey,
What the hell, why are all Asus's new 15.4" laptops have a ty resolution of 1366x768? What the hell are Asus playing at. 1440x900 I could put up with, but would much prefer 1920x800 or 1920x1200.
I would love to get this model, however with that screen resolution, nah, not going to happen.
I asked xoticpc and they said "This model is currently not available in any other resolution".
Does anyone know the model of the screen?

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
The issue, as it has been for the past 4 years, is that WUXGA screens will not sell in any market at enough volume in the 15" chassis to justify their production and distribution costs and Asus got out of the custom business as a result. Some might argue their breadth model sub-types is too many and confusing as it is.
Hence, as Asus business model is to sell product that the public will actually purchase in sufficient quantity to generate profit, and the public doesn't like screen res sizes that make everything in routine use small, they won't manufacture it.
They make what will sell, not what a small enthusiast cohort *might* purchase. -
@OP
Eaxctly, Why the hell they can no put it as an option to customer ? If a reseller can fit my choice of CPU why it can not fit a display resolution of my choice. People who shout for small text with FHD resolution can always increase the font with OS DPI settings or can use the OS magnifier feature (really can output bigger font)
The problem with Asus is that they are not keeping their own words. Goto their website and they have mentioned about the FHD screen, but has not shipped to the resellers -
I can see where you're coming from ClearSkies, but still, if they're producing a 1333x768 screen then surely they can send a small supply of the 1980x800 screens as well, and if they do increase in demand, make some more? I'd be happy to pay an extra of up to £100 (yes, that desperate) to get the larger resolution.
I am in the market for a gaming laptop, but after looking at MSI and the ASUS G series, I have decided they are all too thick for my liking (at 15 inch) so I was looking for other 15 inchers with a i7 and a moderate GPU and the N53 was perfect in that aspect (I am a sucker for lights though, which it doesnt have, which the G53 does and I am actually considering as well due to the better peformance)
So if anyone knows any gaming laptops that are good/cool/sleek looking and pretty thin then please let me know!
And @ URPradhan
Yeah it's crazy, but the average consumer doesn't know how to do that. And exactly in the asus newsletter, it said that they would be doing the FHD screen. -
I think what ClearSkies mean't was economies of scale. Asus is not able to sell enough volume of the FHD to keep costs down (and profits up), hence the lower res screens.
Also, while processors are easy to upgrade, with LCD panels there's the added difficulty of fitting into the bazel, various power consumption and bios compatibility. Hence, I would say most resellers do not offer this option to prevent voiding the warranty. But this is just my opinion. By all means, you could talk to some of the resellers, and heck maybe even convince them to do the mod. Or do it yourself.......(attempt with caution though). -
Seriously w.t.h. are they smoking?
I can understand on a 13" 14" size but 15" and up 1377x768 oh and would you like to add a bluray player with your 768 resolution panel this is dumb.
I love the way the N series looks in fact I'm waiting on the N43 but there are a few things that annoy me about Asus no back lit keys, dumb resolution panels.
That ever so annoying stiff single bar mouse button has long been a complaint by many we need 2 separate buttons. -
Also, the price difference between a HD+ and FHD panel is HUGE, so if there isn't demand for FHD (good luck finding a laptop under $1000, decent GPU and FHD), they won't make it.
-
Well......if your trying to hit a price point that's one thing.
Again give the tweaks an option then we wouldn't have to look around going W.T.F. -
Oh I see,
Anyone recommend a retailer that could do it? -
Also, a FHD screen is a feature that you know you want, or don't care about. The regular soccer mom buying her kid a computer won't even think about screen resolution. Even apple doesn't put high res screens in their laptops by default, you pay an arm and a leg to get that customization. Asus doesn't do custom computers, so they probably don't build the functionality into the bios for a reseller to customize. -
Catering for the masses bah humbug! what about those people like us who use CAD Photoshop, indsign, premier, MAX or well...... any program other than IE that has menus, 1377x768is ridiculous.
You could try this.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...y-mod-w-pics-not-faint-heart.html#post5591302 -
However, I would like to point out that watching a Blu-ray at 720p vs 1080p on a 15" screen won't make a lick of difference. Also I think that having a blu-ray drive would be more for hooking up the laptop to a 1080p TV or similar using the HDMI out. -
But for the masses, a choice is nice! -
I would have bought a new laptop if assus had non G laptops with a higher resolution then 1377x768 that aint 17inch. Now I am still delaying my buy and might go for a sony...
