Okay I owned this sucker for two weeks now. I updated to 13.2 Beta 5 GENERIC AMD Drivers.
Noticed brightness controls is not working, then I thought it must be because its a beta.
So I went to 13.1, noooo still got brightness problem.
Then I'm like AMD seriously? ?
At first, you either had to choose between HD 7660G solo or HD 7730M solo, or recently have Dual Graphics in 13.1 driver aka
the almighty AMD Radeon HD 7660G + HD 7730M Dual Graphics in CrossFire but have that stupid brightness problem
NOT ANYMORE.
To be safe, I suggest using Catalyst 13.2 Beta 5 since I tested on this version of the driver
Go to Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001
The AdapterDesc for 0001 key should be AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7700M Dual Graphics and not just AMD Radeon HD 7700M Series!
If not try the 0000 key.
Next, go find the KMD_EnableBrightnesslf2 & KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 key
Set both to 0.
Reboot.
Wala, your brightness controls are now working.
Your welcome.
EDIT: If it doesn't work, change both 0000, 0001. It might be because you enabled Dual Graphics
Off-topic: I can't run Tomb Raider smoothly in 1080P but it's smooth in 900P. Memory bottleneck maybe?

Good find! Did you figure this out yourself? Or do you have a source that provided this fix for you?
-
I went to investigate the Windows registry after no one posted a solution.

thank you so mush livewings,respect

Thanks for the step-by-step instructions Livewings, it was exactly what my Asus N56DP needed. I'm surprised this isn't a bigger deal with Asus owners since the Windows "Action Center" recommended updating the graphics drivers in the first place, which then caused the problem. Anyways, cheers!

Entering slightly alternate solution that worked for me. Maybe because my registry is a little different or I'm using the latest beta?
So I installed Beta 7 cause Beta 5 was no longer available.
KMD_EnableBrightnesslf2 wasn't in 0000 or 0001
0001 showed only AMD Radeon HD 7700M
0000 showed AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7700M Dual Graphics
in 0000 changed KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 to 0 and rebooted. Nothing changed, brightness settings still didn't work.
went into control panel \ hardware and sound \ device manager \ display adapters
disabled AMD Radeon HD 7700M left for a minute to get coffee, came back, enabled it, boom everything worked. Screen instantly went to max brightness, and FN + F5 made it dimmer.
I should note that AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7700M is also listed as a display adapter, but I didn't touch that one. I have no idea why this worked, but maybe it'll work for someone else too.Guppeh likes this. -

Wow Thx so much. I was running on outdated drivers for such a long time so i decided to update, then i tried all the updates 13.1,13.4... and all had brightness problems... wasted 3 hours in this ... no im runing on 13.6 beta driver and no problems

This worked perfectly. I'm a novice in these matters, and was intimidated, but took a deep breath and jumped in. I did have to set 0000 and 0001 to 0 values after making the adapterdesc the longer value. I then rebooted and it works! Thank you! This saved me from the wrath of customer support. Now I just need to figure out why my keys are starting to squeek...
Good day! -
Thank you so much! Great help, this problem has been bugging me for about a month now and finally too the time to investigate. Worked perfectly.
-
THANK YOU!!! This worked perfectly. I didn't notice until just today that my brightness wasn't working properly and was really not looking forward to having it sit at best buy for a couple of weeks for them to fix it.

I can't believe this is still a problem almost a year later! Many posts about this on the AMD forums with no reply at all from their support.
I have an Asus N56DP with AMD Radeon HD 7660G + 7730M Dual Graphics. I ended up installing Catalyst 13.12 released on 12/18/2013. Adjusting the registry with the OP's instructions did the trick. I made the change in both 0000 and 0001 for expediency.
Thank you!!!
Edit: After upgrading to Windows 8.1 the keys were switched back to 1, so I had to reapply the fix. -
It worked quite well. Thanks a million.
-
Thank you so much
I have a "AMD E-450 Radeon HD Graphis" and Only have a 0000 key, never the least, I switched to "0" and works. -
Not the same pc (I have an HP Pavillion TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC), but I've been having the same problem. My driver is a HD 8510G. The solution I found is that the update would disable my monitor in the Device Manager. Enabling that again fixed my problem. I'm running Win 10 by the way, so no guarantee anyone else would have this work for them.
