New to the forum but thought I'd share I found the N56VZ on amazon.com. Specs are obviously wrong... but looks sweet. Already preorder 2!
Amazon.com: ASUS N56VZ-ES71 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories
-
-
sweet price! undercuts everything we've seen so far
-
It looks like the specs are a little lower than some I've seen available for preorder. Doesn't include large hard drive and it does say 6GB vs 8GB RAM.
-
xoticpc has this too on preorder. You can customize it a lot.
-
YAY first post on this site!
anyway was looking at the promo vids for this model. looks SWEEEt
Also whats the xoticpc link? ^ -
500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive Solid-State Drive

1366x768 screen? Really ASUS? If that's true, and not just a listing error (which surprisingly seems to be common for many ASUS laptops on Amazon), that completely takes away any excitement garnered by the cheaper price.
-
Heh - look at the screen resolution on the Amazon version. Epic fail.

this could be a budget model, all the ones we've sen are DS71, this is an ES71. plus it's cheaper
-
I emailed ASUS and they said the specs are the same for this model as the DS71 on the gentech site. I have a hard time believing them since the price is so much cheaper. The deal breaker will be the low resolution...
GenTech PC - Asus N56VZ-DS71 NV GT650M Intel Ivy Bridge -
There are a few inconsistencies within that page right now. In particular:
- Product dimensions says 6 pounds, shipping weight is 1 pound
- 500 GB 5400 rpm SSD
- Graphics RAM is listed as 200 MB
- Says there are 2 x USB 2.0 ports
-
-
I just purchased one after calling Amazon to confirm. The girl was legitimately confused about the specs and price but stated that it was available for $999.99 and even if the price goes up after its released then I will still get if for the price stated right now!
She also said they have a 30 day 100% money back return policy if you dont like it....Im sure the specs are just typos on the site but even if they arent I can just send it back. Besides...Id like to be the first person to own a 500GB 5400RPM SSD HD lol
-
I'll also take a chance with Amazon. 30 day money back + Prime 1/2 day shipping! Perhaps the 500gb will be a hybrid sd drive. That would at least make the 5400RPM more tolerable. I'll just be banking on the resolution being an error. All the other models seem to be 1080. Check out amazon.de, the German site. What email was used to contact ASUS? Let's get to the bottom of this (hopefully a fantastic deal!). the 650m 2gb graphics card makes absolutely no sense with a 768 screen. The German amazon site lists that the WEBCAM pushes that resolution.
-
I just confirmed it with Asus. The Screen will be a sorry 1366 x 768
You have to go with the DS71 to get the 1080 resolution. But you also get the 2 year warrenty with that one )(ES71 is only 1 year
)
ES71 also only has 4gb of ram
Why they still put the 650m card in there is beyond me.... -

I am not sure who you talked to at Asus but below is the conversation I just had with them via Live Chat:
You are now connected to an ASUS Live Chat Engineer
Mitch : (11:27:12)
How may I help you?
You: (11:27:35)
Hello, I would like to know the screen resolution of your new Asus N56VZ-ES71
You: (11:28:28)
I have seen two different versions of this model and am looking to verify the difference between the two. N56VZ-E
S71 and N56VZ-DS71
Mitch : (11:32:24)
1920x1080
You: (11:33:25)
Would you be able to tell me the main difference between the two models (the ES71 and the DS71)? I am guessing
it is a Hard Drive or Ram difference.
You: (11:33:42)
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Mitch : (11:33:48)
Yeah, give me a few minutes I'll have to pull them up and compare them.
You: (11:34:01)
Cool. Thank you very much
Mitch : (11:34:36)
Ds has 8gigs ram compared to 6 of the E
Mitch : (11:34:57)
E has 500 gb SSd
Mitch : (11:35:02)
compared to the 750 normal of the D
Mitch : (11:35:18)
they both have the same video cards
Mitch : (11:35:20)
screen size
Mitch : (11:35:21)
resolution
Mitch : (11:35:23)
etc
Mitch : (11:35:30)
looks liek those are the main differences
You: (11:35:38)
Is the E HD a hybrid SSD/RPM drive?
Mitch : (11:36:26)
Yes
You: (11:36:42)
nice. Do you happen to have a MRSP for both models?
Mitch : (11:37:06)
No, you would have to contact a reseller for that. prices vary and we don't sell directly.
You: (11:38:00)
Gotcha. Just to verify both models offer a full HD 1080p 1920x1080 screen correct?
Mitch : (11:38:09)
yes
You: (11:38:41)
fantastic. I really appreciate your help -
Really strange, I talked with two different Asus reps and one told me the resolution was not 1080p and the other did. Asus really needs to get their stuff straight.
-
-
If amazon is to be believed, the cheaper version does not have blu-ray. If so, it might make some sense that it also would not include a 1080p panel.

For me right now, it seems like it's either this or the upcoming Lenovo Y580 (which will hopefully be reasonable). And the DS71 at +$1300 is just too much for me to justify. -
Nobody has one yet?
-
Im going on the faith that the ASUS rep was correct on the specs. I can deal with the lower ram/HD but want the FHD screen -
-
I cant make up my mind between this one, the M14x fro Alienware and the new Sager 15" with a 7970. I wish I could see comparison pictures between them. I read that this laptop actually beat the M14X even if it had the slower DDR3 memory, its clocked higher.
-
I recevied an e-amail today. If i saw it earlier i could have mine right now grrrrrrrrrr. Now i need to wait until tomorrow afternoon...
Joeelmex. Sager with 7970 is better of course. If you have the money buy it lol. -
-
. They are already at stock. I just buy one an i'm writing in it right now
-
Still deciding between this, the new Ivy Bridge Sony Vaio SA and new Ivy Bridge HP Envy 15".
Decisions, decisions. -

In the last pages, someone was saying that Asus support confirmed that this has 1920x1080, while it's 1366x768 on amazon.
Confirm before purchasing. -
