Hi. I have recently returned a Dell Studio 1745 due to horrendous fan control and excessive noise. However the dell has magnificent in-built speakers - how does the asus N61/N71 compare? Is there noticeable bass and is there any distortions at semi-high/high volumes?

On the ASUS global site speaker quality is emphasized however in a recent edition of a danish consumer magazine the asus N61 speakers tested worst in show (worse than lenovo SL510 speakers) - can this really be true? Can someone comment on the in-built speaker quality compared to any other laptop they have owned

The laptop is for watching television (DVB-C) and movies so something with good in-built speakers, nice screen and silent running is needed. Is the ASUS N71 recommendable in this aspect?

    Thank you in advance

I remember trying out the N61 speakers and the audio wasn't as great as Asus claims. Bass is lacking like any other laptop without a sub-woofer and the highs were just OK. I'm not sure about the N71, but I'd assume it uses the same speakers as the N61.

But Asus claims "N" is for e Ntertainment which specific stress on audio quality. If you do not like the audio quality it proves what they are claiming :p

Thanks.. Then I might aswell go for the much cheaper MSI CR720 as graphics isn't an issue.

Why does asus brand this as a sound-savvy solution.. It just leads to unsatisfied customers no matter how cone shaped those speakers are..

I agree - the sound on a laptop is a big determinant for whether I buy it or not. My old XPS M1710 has awesome sound. My RMA'd g73jh had good sound, but didn't compare well to my old XPS M1710. It seems like in reviews the sound is somewhat lacking in the N61/71 models, and that was one of the reasons I stayed away from them. I almost pulled the trigger on an N61 actually, but didn't.

ITT: People who have not yet discovered a good pair of headphones.

Get real people, notebook speakers will never be on par with a decent stereo system nor a decent pair of headphones.
