I'm not sure if this topic has been mentioned previously but here goes:

Does anyone think the sound quality of this notebook is below par? The bass is almost non existent.

I have it and it is actually pretty satisfying. The sound quality is very good and is very crisp. Ofcourse there is bass, but not as much as a headset. I was actually amazed by the quality, everyone reported that it sucked etc., but it is very good.

I'm not exactly fond of ours either, especially since it's supposed to be a multimedia laptop (and not a cheap one at that).

I can live with it, especially since none of the laptops I've checked out (at the stores) sound any better.

What REALLY gets my goat on this machine right now though, is the 2.0 megapixel webcam ... wholly crap - the lag time is pathetic!!! I have a usb webcam for our Windows 2000 Pro desktop that's like years old already, and it does a wayyyyy better job than the one in the N61.

I thought I was going to love this machine (with the specs it has and all), but the fact that we can't even transfer video from our video camera to the laptop via the firewire express card we purchased has me SERIOUSLY thinking of bringing it back. I have read, and read, and read, NUMEROUS forums on that subject, and still haven't found a clear-cut 'fix'. Some say it's the driver, others say it's the cable ... and so forth.

Okay, I won't go on as I don't want to get off topic here.
As for the sound though, it's 'typical' to me (of laptops), but the fact that you have buttons to control the sound (just above the keyboard) is a nice feature. (If we keep this model, we're thinking of getting an upgraded external sound card anyway.)
