    Hello there ,

I have recently bought an ASUS N61JQ
the laptop came with 500GB HDD
there are two partitions ... the OS 450GB ... and the hidden one 16.5GB
all i want is .. a clean windows without all the bloatware it came with
    and the HDD like this
    (C: 150GB) .. (D: 150GB) and (E: 150GB) with the hidden as well
then a clean windows 7 copy on the C partition .. thats it :D

so .. the options i have are :-

    1- the recovery partition .
    2- recovery DVDs .
3- shrinking the OS partition .
4- using programes like (Acronis Disk Director Suite) or any other one .

which option would you guys recommend .. ??

i'm afraid the shrinking option will keep the new partitions related to the main one ( OS which was shrinked ) .. and if i formatted the OS .. i'm afraid i will lose the two other partitons .. is that true ? or they will just be totally seperate ones ?

sorry for the bad english
    Thanks in advance :)

If you shrink one of the partition using windows disk manager, an unallocated space will appear. It won't affect the partition you shrink from or other formatted partition 99.9%, then extend other partitions with available unallocated space as you see fit.

now i did shrink the OS into these partitions

why is the first one PRIMARY and the second is LOGICAL ?
and whats the difference please ?

the whole matter is .. if i want to format the OS partition to make a clean windows 7 install ... will the data on these two partitions (D & E) be affected ?

thanks a lot .. and sorry for many questions :)

If you only format the OS partition then the data on the other partitions will not be affected.

You will need a retail or oem copy of windows 7. Recovery from dvd or HD only restore windows.

Yes if you use the recovery DVD it will re-partition your drive to the factory default.

For clean installing windows you should have used a windows installation disk and not the recovery disk.
I hope you did not have any important data on the other partitions that you lost in this process. :(
