I know the higher end models are not out yet.
I'm comparing it using Gentech's site:
    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SRCH&Store_Code=GPS&search=N50
    and Excaliber:
    http://www.excaliberpc.com/computers/c-303/home-office-notebooks.html?m=23

The N series covers everything I ever want and need in a laptop. I would prefer a 15.4 inch (N50) screen but the 6.5 lbs weight is making me think twice which is why I am looking at the 14.1 (N80, weird naming convention) which weighs 5.7 lbs.

The N50 has the numeric keypad which I haven't seen or heard till how. I'm wondering how this compare to the normal laptop keypad. I.e do you have to shift further left to type?

Also I was doing a comparison and the N50 has 3 USB while the N80 has 5 USB. Why is this so? I don't get why a smaller laptop would have more USB since the N50 is bigger.

I'm going to buy this N80, but the 5800 proc. which is good enough for me...
I think you'd do the same... no regrets at all!
usb ports are never too much, even to mices, and keyboard ( in my case, i use the laptop as a desktop ) i got everything I need... 22" lcd + wireless keybrd. and mice from logitech... just plug and play :p

I have also been looking at both of these. I wish there was a little bit higher resolution option for the N80...

Would the N50 run cooler? I would think that it would due to the extra space?

Well for the N50 there is the air ionizer. There is a misunderstanding if the higher res N50 WXGA+ and WSXGA+ screen is LED back lit or not but other than that the N50 has about he same specs with the Hybrid Graphcis and other functions which doesn't really matter to me.

I actually got the N80Vn with the 200 live.com rebate.

It says on the Asus site that for the N50 only WXGA is LED. WXGA+ and WSXGA are not LED backlit.

On gentech they say the N50-B1B is LED and comes with WXGA+. Gentech is a very reliable and trusty site, might be a typo though.

    OFFICAL Mail From Gentech;
Brian from Gentech has replied to my email sent and says that initially Asus said all N-series laptops were LED back lit. Now the fact is that only WXGA screens in the N-Series have the LED back lit screens.

What higher end models? You mean the ones with higher screen resolutions?

    Only these models are out:

    ASUS N50 Series:
    Asus N50Vn-A1B (15.4" WXGA LED/T5800/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/250GB/BT/WiFi/DVDRW)
    Asus N50Vn-B1B (15.4" WXGA+/P8600/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/320GB/BT/WiFi/DVDRW)

These models are on the way (I think this is what he refers to as "higher end"):
    Asus N50Vn-C1S (15.4" WXGA+/T9400/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/320GB/BT/WiFi/DVDRW)
    Asus N50Vn-C2S (15.4" WSXGA+/T9400/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/500GB/BT/WiFi/DVDRW)
    Asus N50Vn-C3S (15.4" WXGA+/T9400/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/320GB/BT/WiFi/Blu-Ray)

    --------------------------
    Asus N80 Series:
    Asus N80Vn-A1 (14.1" WXGA LED/T5800/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/320GB/WiFi/DVDRW)
    Asus N80Vn-GP011C (14.1" WXGA LED/P8600/NV 9650M GT 1GB/4GB 800/320GB/BT/WiFi/DVDRW)

EDIT: So, only the lowest end model has the LED lit screen?? Asus has phailed again. I guess I'd wait till Windows 7 comes out, and by that time DDR3 will probably come out for most notebooks as Asus is fast to bring new technology in their notebooks.

Yeah the N80Vn-A1 looks like a very promising model. Hauling around a 15.4" lappy is very noticeable vs. a 14" one in terms of weight.
