what are your thoughts if you choose XP instead of vista ?

i know many of you say it works better with the vista 64 bit, but really what are the major differences?

    thanks

It's mostly a matter of personal preference. But keep in mind that the 32bit XP would work best and most stable, however, this will limit your ram utilization to 3GB.

XP was designed for 32-bit, while Vista had 64-bit in mind. Because of this, if you plan to use 4+ GB of memory, then Vista 64-bit will have a lot better support than XP 64-bit.

    um...
David, so would it be better as stick with Vista and follow the "NBR Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide" or install XP?

Based on msdn, all 32-bit windows support upto 4GB ram but 0.75GB RAM will be not used. Therefore, I understand what you said.

Would you install XP or Vista on your computer?
Since there are still many progarms that not support Vista, it seems that XP would be more stable.......

    ps1
So how much memory would I lose if I use Vista? *After disable unnecessary tools that stated on "NBR Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide"
    ps2
Asus N81Vp-C1 has Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit

    ilwhana,

If you use any programs that are only XP compatible, then XP 32bit should be your choice.
For everything else, especially if you want to use all 4GB of your ram, go with Vista 64bit.

You don't really loose that much memory after disabling Aero and after installing SP1. You'll see that it will still use a little more system resources than XP, but given the large amount of ram you have, it shouldn't affect performance so much.

Yeah, many Asus notebooks come with Vista 32bit. Neither micro$oft nor Asus will provide you a free 64bit version, so you'll probably have to purchase one separately.

On a similar note, Window 7 RC is available for free testing so you could try it out if you want to save $ on a 64bit OS. It expires on March 2010, so you have about a good 10 months of use before you decide whether to revert back to XP or Vista.

    So pretty much,
either XP 32bit or Vista 64bit.... (not XP 64bit or Vista 32bit)
I should check out the softwares that I'm going to use before ordering a new laptop from Gentech.

    About Window 7....
I like to try out, but looking for compatible driver will be pain in the aXX... OTL

    Thanks David

    ps

Gentech gives so many options for OS, which makes me difficult to make decision. lol

XP32bit or Vista64bit would be ideal, however this means that you'd have to invest on a new operating system. For the majority of users, 3GB of ram would be sufficient, hence the vista 32bit that comes with the N81Vp would do just fine.
