Just want some opinions. I have been waiting for the u80v for awhile now but realized its going to be relativly similar in price to the N81Vg-x1 which has more power.

I'm mostly using it for school with probably some mild gaming.

Which do you think is better bang for my buck here?

N81Vg-x1: Little more power but shorter battery.

U80v: good battery and more portable but less power.

I can't really decide, although if the U80v was out now id buy that.

Little help to sway my choice

You'll want a laptop that will have decent battery life for school. I'd vote for the U80V even though it has a weaker graphics card.

EDIT: Weaker graphics card and not battery life. :p

yea same i'd go for the u80v as well. yes you will have to give up graphics for battery life but imo it will be worth it since the battery is suppose to last up to 6 hours. For me I think I will like the chiclet style and backlit keyboard.
The u80v also looks better too and then there is price difference of the two machines if thee u80v is 900 as some sites claimed.

and you can't forget that the u80v is gaming capable as well. as long as you're not a hardcore gamer needing high settings in all your games, i'm sure the u80v is fairly capable of running modern games at medium settings, and does so more power-efficiently too. for me the n81 design just doesn't compare to the u80.

    just mildly? hahahah
but towards the design aspect, the n81vg is expected to come out with different colours, as shown at computex. i think with a different colour (like white - that would be pure ) the n81 would look a LOT better. but i haven't been able to find anything on it on google lol.

Wow, someone else having to make the same agonizing decision as me! For me the u80v seems a bit more desirable. It's definitely not as strong graphics wise as either of the n81s, but it's smaller and with better battery life. Not much of a toss up when you can play games in decent settings, like others have said.

And I don't know about you, but I HATE waiting! I think I'm gonna go a bit nuts if this thing takes longer than 2-3 weeks to come out, hahaha.

^^ amen. The gaming isn't a huge part for me, cuz i have a beefy desktop i built in the winter. The only reason i want minimal gaming is to kill time in between classes at uni.

But the portability and battery life is more attractive at this point . However I'm horrible at waiting and since its already been a few weeks i am going freaken nutz waiting on this thing to hit the shelves

Haha, srsly. I started my laptop search back in like January, and finally decided to take the plunge and get a g50vt-x5 from best buy. Turns out the thing is too big to lug around with me every day and Best Buy has that stupid 15% restocking fee. Sorry, but I am NOT going to pay them $135 to return a laptop I bought brand new from them 2 days before. Since then I've been trying to make up my mind on a 14" or smaller one, but Asus keeps announcing new models all the time! Waiting is soooooo hard right now :(

yeah i'm in that same boat. i'd rather not go over 14" in screen size. however i don't have a beast desktop to game with. =(

ps i'm going into first year lol
