I recently purchased an ASUS N76VZ a few days back. It is laptop that uses the nvidia optimus technology. The laptop has 2 graphical adapters one a Nvdia Geforce GT 650M and the other intel HD graphics 4000. The laptop is using a windows 7 home premium 64 bit and has 8 gb RAM and i7 3610QM processor.
The problem started when my son tried to run League of Legends ,Dungeons and Dragons and Dead Island. The games would crash and this was the event viewer.

So I tried using the Nvidia control panel and setting the graphics to use the Geforce card but the problem kept happening. So when I used the default graphic processer overrride option which you can do when launching the game itself it just went black and had to be shut down via the task manager however the earlier nvd3dum.dll problem did not occur.
As you can see there are two seperate issues on was the driver problem but the second where it crashed and had to be forcibly shutdown is not. I am wondering what could be wrong.
I tried the 304.79 driver and the latest 306.02 driver and both had the same problems. I am wondering if my card is defective. Games however work on the hd intel card but obviously I want to use the Geforce GT 650M card. I have sent it to the shop and they have sent it back to ASUS.

I tried out League Of Legends briefly on my machine and didn't have any issues running it on the NV card. I also play HD movies through the HDMI port regularly using that card also.
You did perform the driver updates, so it seems to likely be a hardware issue. Since you sent it back to the store under warranty, you'll just have to play the waiting game until they get back to you. -
I am hoping they fix it not return it and say it is a software issue. Here's hoping I guess thanks for the reply.

Try and uninstall the drivers and reinstall and see if that fixes it.

First thing I did in fact reformatted twice even but to no avail the problem came back every time even with the drivers already installed by the windows update.

An update as of today.
It was according to ASUS a defective laptop but they cannot replace the exact one because they do not have 750gb hard drive version .So I am stuck with having to pay the extra to get the replacement with a 1.5TB hard drive version which will be arriving end of this month. As my nasty luck would have it they have revised their prices too.
I know these sort of things can happen with a computer as it has so many parts that can be defective but damn I am mad especially when I was patting myself on the back for getting the earlier one at that price. Should have known my luck was too good to hold. I am now praying the replacement works well. -
I wouldn't be standing for that. Are you dealing direct with Asus, or an authorised repairer? -
At least here you always get it repaired or gets an identical/better laptop as replacement for no added cost. -
Yes the dealer I bought it from sent the laptop back to ASUS since I returned it within 3 days and for the first month the dealer will send the laptop to ASUS themselves and after the month you have to send it to ASUS yourself. I bought it in Italy and if I complain it may take months for a resolution and even then I may have to pay for the extra hard drive space. See I think these big companies don't repair really they just replace because my experience with Dell for instance so far has been if you have complained about a problem they just come and replace the motherboard, video card or hard drive depending on the complaint. They do not repair because it cost them more money in manpower so the parts are cheaper and in this case I doubt ASUS is going to repair it and I bought this laptop for my son for his university and if I wait for a resolution it may take ages.

That's a raw deal. You'll have to bite the bullet I suppose to save time in the long run.
Let us know how the new machine fairs when you get it. -
Sorry to hear that the reseller is making you pay out of pocket to upgrade to the 1.5TB version. If it was under the return policy with the reseller I would have got a refund and went to another store that did have that model available and have them worry about dealing with ASUS repair facility. Looks like Nvidia has another update release which is the 306.23
ASUS NV76VZ issue
