    Hey guys,

I'm upgrading the memory on an ASUS P50IJ notebook and cannot find the 2nd memory slot. I looked under the keyboard with no luck. I'm crossing my fingers that 2 of the 4GB isn't built into the motherboard.

    Any ideas?

FWIW, the laptop was getting a memory_management BSOD error right after startup. I thought swapping the memory would be the first place to try.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Directly underneath the RAM slot you should notice an array of memory chips.

That is the other RAM, it's integrated onto the motherboard.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. So if the onboard memory has gone bad, is the MB shot?

Any ideas what else would cause this error?

Yeah, it could be that. Try giving memtest86+ a run: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

The board isn't necessarily shot if you have some soldering skills. You can desolder the chips. Alternatively I have seen people just cut the legs off the chips with a razor blade...

Quick question... can I simply unsolder the onboard memory chips and put a 4GB stick in the lone slot, or will the MB not be able to recognize the full 4GB from one slot?

    Thanks again.

Yeah that can work, it should be able to see the one 4GB stick as long as it's the right type of memory.
