Computer worked fine last night. When I opened this morning, the white power light blinked at about 1 second intervals. No other lights. Green light on ac adapter is on. Removed battery and tried reset, now I have nothing; not even the blinking light. Ordered a new power cable, but any other ideas? I can't find anywhere what that blinking

Blinking indicates sleep mode. Supposedly the adapter or indeed the cable is defective and the system drained until the battery was empty as well. You could verify by checking the remaining voltage of the battery with a multimeter. Merely a powered led on the adapter doesn't mean much, since it only takes a trickle of power to light that thing.

Thanks! I'll wait for the replacement adapter and cable to arrive.

Have the new power cord and adapter. Plugged in, and now I have a tiny white light on the front under power and an orange light under battery. Steady; no blinking. But, pushing the button to power on, I get nothing, not even a blip.
Anything else Might be able to try? Thanks!

Removed the battery and ran on adapter-only yet?

If it has indeed been drained then it's possible for its remaining voltage to drop below a minimum threshold, after which the adapter's regular voltage can no longer initiate charging. Same thing with many smartphones/tablets; the device seems dead, but it really has been discharged too far. Trick to revive those is by plugging/unplugging the adapter repeatedly, since this will push a peak-voltage for a very short time upon each connect. Once it's been charged a little then normal charging can resume. This isn't very healthy for either battery or adapter, btw, so apply this method reservedly.
