I bought my laptop in December 2010 and it's already been shipped to ASUS 3 times. Of the 5 months, ASUS has been trying to "repair" it for more than 2 months now. I finally get hold of the supervisor and he says I can only wait until they have parts to "fix" my computer. I basically bought it for a trip to Asia but couldn't bring it because of repairs. After I come back, the problem still exists and they are selling a newer model.
Is there nothing I can do other than wait? They don't even know how to fix the CPU whine so they force me to ship it back so they can try changing one part at a time. This is so retarded........

Do you know what part they are waiting on? Have you asked them to replace the whole machine?
The CPU whine problem I think is just a board design problem. If you're unhappy with it - and that's the only reason it's been RMA'd - just ask for it back and sell it. That's my advice at least..
That CPU whine issue is across all iSomething notebooks too, from all manufacturers, so it could be beyond a board design problem like sloppy reference design (from Intel).
I've had CPU whine on all kinds of machines and it was almost always tied to idle states on the CPU. Not that that helps - I've read the threads, and keeping the CPU locked is a horrible tradeoff. Some machines have ways to work around it in the BIOS setup, but it's a hard one to peg for a general solution. -
CPU whine is generally attributed to two possible factors:
1. Poor MOSFET design/material (not likely on an ASUS motherboard)
2. CPU itself
I'm more inclined to go with the CPU at the moment. Perhaps you can ask them to swap in a new CPU for you? -
Sorry for the late replay!
I did call ASUS but the guy doesn't know what part they are waiting for..
The Motherboard has been changed before and I think they're changing the CPU this time though.
Sigh..
ASUS RMA help!
