    Quick question please.

I did a clean install and am going back picking and choosing what programs and options I want.

Anyone know which folder is the control for function keys?
Also which folder is Light Scribe?
    And which is Splendid?

I looked quite a bit, and found all that I wanted except those 3.

    Thanks in advance.

Well I guess I didn't look that good because I found a couple.
ATK Folders are the ones for Function keys.
More obvious is Splendid folder is for Splendid, must have missed that.
    Still can't find Lightscribe though.

You mean on the driver disk? Perhaps look under something named after the ODD manufacturer.

Or download a driver from support.asus.com if that proves to be easier.

    Yeah, the driver/utility disk.
I've looked under just about everything I can think of without actually going in and installing/uninstalling till I find it (which I'm thinking about doing).

Lightscribe isn't any particular program. Most major cd/dvd software like nero or roxio can make use of lightscribe hardware. In addition to that, you'll need lightscribe media as well.

Well when I first got the laptop with everything installed there was a desktop icon and a start menu folder lableled 'Lightscribe'.
I'm sure it's in there some where~ at least I presume it is.

Install the Nero program using the CD provided, and the Lightscribe icon will show up on your desktop.

I am finishing up my loading of Vista Ultimate, now that I got XP installed on another partition, and this did the trick for me.

I think Asus loads the LightScribe shortcut on all its notebooks.

It was on my A8Jp originally. It was re-installed after a clean install.

But A8Jps don't have LightScribe drives. If your Asus does have a Lightscribe drive, you can download from here:

    http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/index.aspx

Your drive needs to have the Lightscribe icon on it to use Lightscribe. It's a special build of a CD drive - not just the software/drivers.

Ah, I bet that's it. I never did try re-installing Nero.
Will do that when I get home, thanks much.

Thanks for the advice, I do have lightscribe so if re-installing nero doesn't work I'll try this.

    Thank you both.

There is no driver as such for lightscribe. I did a clean install of vista after trying XP, I installed my retail copy of nero ultimate and the "Print Lightscribe Label" option was shaded out.

Using nero help I downloaded nero's lightscribe control software and all is well.

It turns out that whilst the drive is lightscribe enabled you also have to have particular control software relevant to the burning software you are using.

Well I reinstalled the Nero disk it came with and it replaced the light scribe icon.
Come to find out the Icon is really just a 'How to' using different programs.
The Nero program has a lable creator in it, and a light scribe option.

So all is good now. Thanks for everyones help.

Also on the Splendid, after I re-installed it, seemed to slow up the start up process a lot. I removed it again.
