    Hey everyone,

First off, thanks for this forum. It's been a big help in me deiciding on buying an Asus M6Bne. Like the other Canadians here though, I've had a hard time tracking down a reseller. Anyways, I emailed Asus yesterday and asked them for some local resellers, and they mentioned that there will be a product showcase at Pacific Mall in Toronto this weekend.

Here is their reply to a follow-up email I sent:

    Dear Matthew,

Thank you for your email. Regarding to your email, there is not only a display show at the Pacific Mall for our notebook, and there also will have about 3 resellers that being partnership with us to sell the notebooks during the event. So, well definitely we are welcome you to come over to our display center to look at the ASUS notebooks. Please feel free to contact at anytime if you have any further question. Thank you.

    Best regards,

    ASUS notebooksales

I think I will make the drive to see if they have some good deals, and at least get my eyes and hands on a system before I purchase. Just wanted to let everyone else know.

hey Matt, thanks for this piece of information, there's a lot of Canadians that visit this site so definitely helpful. Hopefully Asus does this type of thing in other major cities as well (it's a long drive from Vancouver to Toronto!)

Just to let everyone know about the laptop showcase (one more day to go.) I made the trip out today, and it was worth it for me, because I ended up buying a system there. There were representatives from Asus (one of the official Canadian retailers, forget the name, and they actually knew what the hell they were talking about when it came to components. Compare that to a Future Shop guy who asked me 'What's Dothan?').

Asus has a little display setup in the middle of the mall, but there are a few laptop vendors that actually sell the models scattered in the mall. I spoke with one of the Asus guys, and then to one the owner of the featured shop. They answered all my questions, and let me play around with the display system until I was satisfied.

I purchased the M6BNe from Pacific Notebooks (seem to be alright guys, so far), with the following specs:

    15.4" screen
    Centrino 'Dothan' 735, 1.7 Ghz
    512 mb x 1 PC2700 RAM
    64 mb ATI Radeon 9700
FREE Upgraded DVD -/+ R/RW burner from CD/DVD combo
    802.11g
    40 GB 5400 HD
    1 year warranty + 1 year additional
    FREE carrying case
    FREE lock

Price: $2599 CDN taxes and shipping included

I'm pretty happy with this deal. There is no OS, but I don't need one. And compared to what ETC computers lists as a price for the same components, I think I made out alright.

The showcase is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are in the general area. Each vendor does their own specials each day. Today happened to be free case/lock/upgraded DVD burner, but who knows what the special will be tommorrow.

    Cheers,

    matt
