Hi, I'm presently deciding which new notebook I want to buy and the W3J is looking very appropriate for my needs.

My question is: If I have a support issue, do I have to mail the notebook at my own cost? Or do they send out a mailer for me? I live in the Toronto area.

Comments in general seem to be quite varied about ASUS support; Some people say it is great, while other say it is horrible and staffed by clueless monkies. Me, I would not know because even though I have been using ASUS motherboards for many years, it has always been 100% success with no need to RMA anything.

You can bring it back to the vendor you purchased it from, and they should be able to do the mailing/etc if you're under warranty.

ASUS has a repair centre at HWY 7 & East Beaver Creek, I think. That's in Richmond Hill, but still local enough for you - I would think? You can bring it in locally and have them repair it there if you want as well.

ASUS does take care of shipping and costs. Just and FYI the cost to ship a notebook in 1 day is like 6-10$ using many types of Couriers.

In anycase ASUS will cover the cost of shipping.

If you need to use your warranty, you have to call ASUS, get the RMA number, then call Richmond Hill, and talk with them and give them all the information needed.

Yes you can bring it in locally, some people live even 20 minutes away and they can easily drive to the service centre.

Their service is very good, have had many good reports of their service, many are even present on this forum.

If you have any problem of course come to the Forums here first, to make sure you really do have a hardware problem, instead of a software problem.

Another question: I notice that W3J's sold in Canada have 1 or 2 year warranties. If I wanted to upgrade to the 3 year warranty, does that have to be done at the time of purchase? Or can I do it afterward through ASUS?

My current notebook is the Apple iBook and I know with those you can upgrade to the 3yr warranty any time with the first year. Does ASUS do anything similar?

You have 6 months from the date of purchase to buy the warranty extension. It is done online through ASUS.

    Cheers.

You see this differece is because W3J 026P and 037 both in the market, for 026P is T2500 CPU and 1 yr global warranty, fpr 037 it is T5500 CPU and 2 yr global warranty( also has case and mouse ); 026 can be sold with 2 more yr extended north American warranty; 037 can be sold 1 more yr global warranty.

I just want to chime in my opinion regarding the service quality.
I went to the Richmond Hill location today to get my keyboard replaced and it was done within ~10-15 min (including paperwork!). Of course, it's difficult to generalize from this single experience, but it seems to me that service is efficient and pleasant.

I would look up prior Asus Support Canada experiences in a forum search if I were you. There were plenty of stories in the past few weeks I don't really recall reading any negative experiences - maybe one or two at most, so I'm not sure which ones you are referring to. The majority (like mine) were very positive.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am still gathering info on this notebook but currently it is my #1 choice. Maybe I will get one soon.
