Hey there
Just posting to announce i'll soon be doing a review for the ASUS U3.. well.. a spec list. I was conviently sent one but for some reason they want it back. If they do end up getting it back - I will be posting my story + Information about the notebook here. I'll note everything - Including pictures![]()
I'd rather make the effort of this after people showing intereast. I will also approach engadget about this too - so keep your eyes pealed![]()
-
Seems like a stripped-down XPS 1330. Battery life must be great though.
-
Interesting, I'll look forward to it

I want to see this, plus I want to know - how did you manage to get sent a prototype notebook? Some kind of error in the shipping? I want one!
-
Definitely would love to hear about it since you have the chance to lay hands on it.
-
Done!
I was sent it by "accident" - They then sent their solicitors saying they wanted it back. soooo - they've got it back. (Came with my 2 broken mobos)

What's the story?
-
What story? All I can say is that its an AMAZING piece of kit. Some if it I couldnt use properly as there arent any drivers released for it yet. Luckily the GPS drivers DID come with it and they worked wonders. I'd highly recomend it - only ASUS have been childish in getting it back (Lieing - ect)
Now they have it I may as well give you lot the specsSpread around if you wish
-
Awesome LOL!
I want one so badly
I find it interesting it doesnt have a ULV processor. -
It lists the CPU as "T7100 1.80GHz" but the cpu speed is listed as essentially 1200MHz (in the overclock section), so its probably a Santa Rosa version of the U7600, but the BIOS sees it as a T7100, which is pretty common with prototype/engineering sample processors.
EDIT: after scrolling down to the CPU section, I see the 1795MHz figure, which means it is a real T7100...Thats a welcome change, it really didn't make sense to cripple an otherwise very powerful notebook with a ULV cpu, but that did go well with the ultraportable concept.
And its confirmed that this has an 8400G, not GS. -
Hoody, I need to know the most important factor - weight! How does it feel like comparing to other ultraportables like Sony TZ or Asus U1F?
-
Waiting on a M1330 but I want one of these!!!
-
Weight - You can balance it on one hand easily without it falling off - its VERY light. One of the lightest Laptops i've ever heald. Sorry I cant compare it with much.
-
Good to see its not using a UVL CPU. When is this coming out, since the Z37 or whatever is rumoured to have production problems?
-
September this year - about $2000 in US

ah - yeah. Well - it started off with me having 2 broken ASUS motherboards. I had waited almost 2 months for them to be sorted - so I was starting to get fed up. They then email be saying both are dispatched and that it will be with me the next day.
Next day they both arrived - along with another box (everything in 1 packet) - I was stunned. There was a laptop in there!
I couldn't believe it. After that I booted it up (Thinking it wasnt anything special) - But it had vista pre-loaded. I did some research and found that the laptop isnt even out yet!
A week later ASUS phoned me saying it was a mistake - but I was thinking "No - I've used it, and it was all delivered with my name on".
A couple of days later they phoned again - only their solicitor was on the phone. I was told to comply else I would be taken to court (I really couldnt be bothered with this) - They've now collected it from me, and what did I get in compensation? A stupid ROUTER (with hard disk).
Oh well.... -
Emm.. you should had ask for a few Asus EEEs...
Nice luck thou, u had the chance to play with preproduction models. -
Hmm looking at the revised specs with a possible T7100 instead of a ULV CPU...
Wooah this laptop is looking like an excellent alternative to the sony SZ let alone the Dell M1330. Any word on an exact release date (early or late september) as i will be needing a laptop for this fall's semester, and I think this is it. -
Damn! That's a sweet notebook!! Very sleek... me likee!!
-
the Asus U3 is now official as of August 7
check the www.asus.com website for press release -
I would have denied that it was in the box at all... unless it was listed on the invoice. If it wasn't you'd have had a pretty strong case!
With that said - people like Enga creating new accounts on this website just before the launch date of the U3and quickly posting links to PRESS RELEASES on the official asus website sounds to me like a forum viral advertisement campaign from asus itself? -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
U3 may be available week one of september however if you take into average delay i would count on mid october to be the eta -
Indeed I know the saying
Any publicity is good publicity! We know its true. With that said, i'm curious as to whether it is an asus or asus affiliate publicity act or whether they are just really keen on the U3 to make an account and link us to the official asus web page?!
-
U3 will be sweet, and the price won't even be that expensive compared to others in the 13.3" market!
-
Are notebook manufacturers now moving from 12 to 13.3" notebooks? At least thats what I seem to be getting here.
-
man...at least you got free stuff out of the mistake anyways
-
i think if the keyboard on my 12" was any smaller it would be too hard to use, so you cant get too much smaller without compromising usability. -
Maybe they thought they were shipping to Bill Gates?
What no DVD on this thing... thats a bummer.
ASUS U3 - Any fans here?
