from the "pcworld" magazine,
seems that not just that there is no LED screen, there is also only 1.5gb of memory. and it says nothing of an external dvd?
strange...

I know, the managment and publication to the U3 by Asus is a bit strange...
some websites says its a LED and 2.5GB
while others says its non-LED with only 1.5GB.
and Asus are asleep! -
I heard U3S has 512MB built-in memory...and there's only one upgradeable memory slot...
I think U3S does have LED, but only on the higher models... Not sure though...
PortableOne.com says they will have U3S in stock in 2 weeks -
I wish they would release complete spec sheets for all U3 models and variants. I can't believe it has 512mb built in - in this day and age, that's bloody useless. At least make it a gig or 2gb, so that someone could add another 2gb stick for 4gb under an x64 operating system
-
I agree...that's a big bummer...don't understand why a leading motherboard manufacture does this...

They don't ship it with a DVD, you have to pay extra for an optical drive.
It's a load of BS, I don't consider a laptop a functional computer unless it ships with an optical drive.
If you're spending $2000 on an ultra portable, they sure as hell can toss in a freaking external optical drive. -
I can understand that it got cut for weight and a thin profile, but it really isn't that much thinner or lighter. The Sony SZ Premium with identical specs has an optical drive and is about the same thickness and .15 lbs lighter. Its a couple of hundred more expensive, but you get more RAM, an LED screen, and the aforementioned optical drive.

It doesn't have to be internal, but it has to be included.
Even Acer includes an external optical drive with their ultraportable at no extra cost.
