I own an ASUS U30JC laptop. Recently I decided to upgrade my CPU, so I ordered an Intel Core i7 820QM CPU from ebay. I installed the CPU, the laptop didn't boot. I installed my previous Core i5 430M CPU and the laptop worked fine like before. Since the 430M is awfully slow, I was determined to upgrade my CPU. I started thinking of updating my BIOS to an ASUS laptop that supports both my old CPU and the newly-bought Core i7 CPU. I found ASUS K42JP which is alike my laptop and Core i5 430M and Core i7 740QM were both in their support list (820QM is like 740QM). And finally I updated my U30JC BIOS to K42JP using WinFlash utility and using /force command to override the incompatibility warning.
After installing the new Core i7 CPU, it didn't boot! After reinstalling my own Core i5, it didn't boot neither and the tragic story started.
I took the laptop to a repair shop, greatly detached the BIOS chip, programmed it to official ASUS U30JC latest BIOS file (215), soldered it, but still it doesn't boot. Actually when I connect the AC cord, this happens:
    1. the PC constantly goes ON/OFF in 5/1 sec interval
(5sec on then 1 sec off, and loop)
    or
    2. when i press the power button the laptop stays on, but there is nothing on the screen and after some time the fan starts working at full speed.
Note: After programming, something about the boot process changed: Before programming, initially with K42JP BIOS on the chip, once AC cord attached, the fan started working at full speed but after programming to U30JC BIOS to BIOS chip, it starts for about 10 seconds with normal CPU fan speed and after 10 seconds it starts working at full speed. It seems as if half of the U30JC BIOS is working fine and the other half is preventing from successful boot. (Just a guess!).

Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

    Hey all,
I'm in the same boat! Well, same symptoms...

I got a notebook in this condition as a donation for parts, but I was hoping to bring it back to life (it's only BIOS, how hard can it be, right? :))
Judging by the U30JcAS215.zip file in the Downloads folder on the local HDD, I guess BIOS update went wrong and no one bothered to do anything about it (rich people, go figure).

I'm trying to use the "blind recovery" method, where you put a U30Jc.bin BIOS file on a flash drive (I'm using 1Gb Sandisk, god bless old tech), take the battery out, disconnect the power, press and hold CTRL+Home (or other combo - there are quite few) and plug in the power.
Here is the thing: the next step in every manual I've read is to turn on the computer using power button, but in this case notebook turns on on its own as soon as I plug the power in. Hoping that this won't be a problem I was determined to continue, but there was no power in a USB ports (attached external DVD - not even a single led blink).
Next step was to burn the BIOS file on a CD and feed it through internal drive, which made some spinning noises but no reading noises :(

    So.... Anyone?
