I did search but couldn't find any info here.

Does anyone know when the ASUS U46SM-DS51 will be available for purchase? I saw this beauty in Xoticpc's website and it is currently on pre-order status.

Good question as I would also like to know a rough estimate of how long I will have to wait. :) I actually have already pre-ordered mine. I love the form factor of this model. I fell in love with it at Best Buy, but their i7 chip was a dual core with hyper-threading. (which made it a look like a quad core machine) That would have been fine at the time, but luckily they had none in stock. Or I would have bought one with no discreat video card.

So longer story shortened... I saw the pre-order and made a nice machine which will do a lot in such a small package.

I'm just surprised none of the notebook retailers are at least commenting. It would help spur potential sales for those intending to buy one, but need a bit more information.

Just curious, which reseller did you pre-order yours at?

I used xoticPC. Their warranty coverage sold me. I will be very mobile with mine and I wanted some piece of mind. It might have been a waste, but you never know.

I can't believe a search here does not yield any results for the U46SM. Of course, finding any info about this new notebook is frustrating.

From the little I can find, this seems to be a replacement for the U46SV-DH51, with upgraded CPU (i5-2450M @ 2.5 GHz vs i5-2430M @ 2.4 GHz) slightly larger screen (14.1 vs 14"), different GPU (GeForce GT 630M vs GeForce GT 540M).

It is available for pre-order at J&R, Excaliber PC and Xotic PC, but no dates are given for when they might ship.

I am looking to replace my UL80Vt that just passed 2 years old, and this system looks like it would fit the bill. My wife wants a new laptop, so I was going to give her the UL80Vt which is still working like a champ (with an OCZ Agility 60 GB SSD).

    Any info would be appreciated.

Unfortunately we're all in the dark on when they will ship as well. Asus doesnt provide an exact date on when they will ship. We cant say for sure when they will be available until they are physically in hand.

Per XoticPC's website... it now lists an estimated date of March 7, 2012. So it will probably be very soon

My Chase credit card has a 5% rebate on Amazon this quarter, so it BETTER be before March 31st! I had posted this question about a month ago, someone from XoticPC did answer with "They don't tell us" (paraphrasing, of course).

It looks like the perfect notebook to replace my UL80VT. Same weight, basically the same battery life, but without having to worry about manually switching graphics modes and with a far more powerful cpu. My wife will be gifted with the UL80, which is still my primary work computer and is working like a champ (with a 60 GB ssd).

I noticed they are now on Amazon- this morning they showed as being sold by Beach Audio, now it mysteriously says out of stock.

    Someone jumped the gun?

I merged the two threads about this as it serves absolutely no purpose to have two separate threads for this and both threads were bumped.
