If you squint you can tell that F3 and F4 have Fn labels, looks like keyboard illumination controls from the icons.

LOL of course there is always something just around the corner to make you wish you waited to buy your laptop. I just bought the U46SM but if the U47VC has an illuminated keyboard that is just what I wanted but gave up in my current purchase.

It remains to be seen whether the backlit keyboard makes it into production.

Early prototypes of the K53 series had a backlit keyboard, but none ever shipped with one.

That's similar to what happens with Concept cars at the Auto Shows. Some designs are radical, not cost effective, and do not make it into production. But, this is a computer and backlit keyboard were talking about. It doesn't cost an arm or a leg and most consumers I think are willing to pay for the backlighting.

Its silly for the manufacturers not to offer the option but the bean counters are probably the ones who have the last word in such matters.

On paper, this looks like the perfect laptop for me and I urgently need a new laptop. If anyone has suggestions on the best site to follow to track the release date of this Ivy Bridge laptop, I'd appreciate the names(s) of the website(s).

I wonder which nvidia GPU it will have? A 650m with GDDR5 would be my hope but given what has happened with the Lenovo y480p I'm not confident about saying that any 13-14 inch laptop should have that at least.

Same here. Odd that Asus has ZERO update on availability with other manufacturers provifing release dates for their Ivy Bridge laptops.

It's not odd at all. ASUS loves to keep the suspense at a maximum. :p

I'm not joking though, this is par for the course. Only the G series and other mainstream laptops usually get firm release dates from ASUS.

Disappointed... although I also hoping for 640, I would be sold even if it's coming with 640 LE. sigh..

Well damn. I've been itching since february (seriously, I've had the money lying around for the u36, but decided to wait), and have been checking for news on this almost daily. And now there's only a month left of Q2, if the late release of Ivy haven't skewed the release window altogether.

This is some hard waiting. Any upcoming electronics show where we might get any news? And how firm are ASUS with their release window promises? Anyone, *cough*ALLurGroceries*cough*, possessing some divine knowledge?

GT 620M, if true, is a bit less than what I've been hoping for. I'm still game, since it seems to be able to handle Diablo 3 fine in the U47's native resolution, but it's not even on par with the U46's GT 540M.
Sure, the chassis is now 13.3" caliber, but Acer's Aspire Timeline series seems to run stable enough.

The dual core part details have just been released, and computex is right around the corner.

But no, I don't have any idea when it's really going to ship.

There's also a review up on most of the dual cores on notebookcheck, and I see some Ivy based Lenovo reviews here and there, so it's getting hot all right.

Computex? That's divine knowledge right there. I'm going to follow it closely. Thanks a bunch for the share!

U47VC looking nice, if it were available today I would pick up an i7 version. I couldn't really care less what GPU is in it, but would like at least 900 lines resolution

    Hi all,

I know that asus u36 was replaced with u44. Is any successor to u44? Something with ivy bridge.
