I just saw a U50 at Best buy, and boy was it cheap looking. The keyboard was like a trampoline, especially near around the number pad. Is the UL series way better in quality than the U series? I've been toying with the idea of a UL50VT even though it is pretty under-powered for what I need to do (would have to upgrade pretty fast from it, I think). But if the quality of the U series is anything like the UL series, I can scratch the "cheap" option off my list since I'm not willing to go that cheap.

I have the u50vg-a1. Not cheap at all. actually exceeds my expectations. only negatives are, touchpad perimeter no activity and fingerprints everywhere. i've had it for a week, decided over the ul series for the better processor, esata, camera. i get about 4-41/2 hrs of battery with full brightness surfing the web and minor apps running

hm? I was told the U series are higher-end models.
Both the UL20 and UL50 had the "trampoline keyboard" (LOL) problem for me. The UL20 was much better built otherwise, probably because it is smaller. -
I have the UL50a for the wife and recently bought the U50 at BB for myself (only to take it back because it won't fit in my briefcase). The UL chassis feels only slightly more solid than the U50 did, but I didn't find the U50 build quality particularly bad. Out of all the notebooks at BB, it was one of the best in build quality.
I'm waiting for the new U80 with the Core i3 so I can fit it in my bag. I thought the U50 was a nice package overall with good balance between portability, battery, and performance. The only downside is the glossy screen which has me inspecting business class laptops, thought they tend to be more expensive and I use an external monitor 95% of the time.
ASUS U50 (not UL50)
