    Hi, I just purchased an Asus U56E-BBL5 laptop from e-bay. It's used / refurb, but is in near mint condition...plastic is still on the mouse keys.

    After pressing the DVD eject button, the drawer pops slightly open. I have to pull all the way out to put in a disc. Is that normal? I was expecting "desktop" like glide out, glide back in.

    When I put in any commerical DVD, it whirls, attempts to read, Window Media Player appears with "unknown dvd" and "chapter numbers with no titles". It'll play for all of 2 seconds and immediatly stops.

    Using a commerical CD instead yields an "unknown track" and "unknown titles".

    Any ideas???

    That's completely normal for laptop DVD drives.

    Did the computer come with any DVD playing software like PowerDVD or WinDVD? If so, maybe you could try those. It's been a while since I've tried using Windows Media Player.

    That's normal though sometimes there's a setting to let Windows Media Player to search the internet to find the track titles and other information about the CD.

    @namaiki...thanks for the responses.

    No other software (dvd/cd) is loaded...thought Internect connection wasn't necessary to display artist / track names. Still, CDs and DVDs dont' play.

    They all register as unknown, but the play button does no good.

    I'll try using a different "player" and see what happens.

    Thanks!
