    Hi guys,

I have a serious problem. I was attempting to update my UX31A BIOS to version 212 using WinFlash, and somehow managed to accidentally reformat my computer (I think). I have no idea how this happened except that when I restarted my computer, I pressed F9 or F2 to get into the ASUS boot screen to load the optimized settings. Somehow this triggered the twilight zone and what I thought was the BIOS installation was actually a fresh install of my computer with factory settings. I've lost most of my school stuff but luckily a lot of it was synced to the Cloud via Microsoft One Note.

I tried using a Restore but apparently I have no restore points available.

Is there any way to recover the missing data at all?????

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...thanks

You might want to sit down, as they say..

That was the recovery boot. You begin it by hitting f9 at the boot when you have an efi partitioned system with the original asus setup/uefi boot. There's that 20Gb hidden partition -- this is an OEM version of windows. When you launch that install from the uefi boot, the recovery program essentially wipes the two other partitions and copies in a new blank windows install (+ asus bloat).

But.. don't you need to hit "Continue" past "WARNING, IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE AND DATA LOSS WILL OCCUR" a few times to start that recovery thing...?

    Hi guys,

I am replying here because I want to do something with my ASUS that @nipsen is describing!!

How do I get the the option back to boot up from the Recovery partition using F9? I upgraded from Win7 to Win8 a few days ago. As I did, I deleted all BUT the Recovery partition. Now, I want to downgrade back to Win7, but when I press F9, I can't get the option to boot with the Recovery partition. The 10GB Asus Recovery partition is still there though (I checked with Disk Management in Windows.)

    Would appreciate your help, thanks!
(I've just done a separate post about this in fact: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/696066-boot-recovery-partition-asus-ux31a-please-help.html)
