    Hey guys

Just received my UX31A yesterday and noticed a rather strong yellow tint on the screen, whites are all yellowish. Ive read a number of reviews (laptopmag, anandtech) and they all pointed out the warmer tone that the new UX21/31A FHD screens have. I have tried using the asus splendid tool to adjust for a cooler temp (6500k) it got a little better but the whites are still off. Do u guys have the same problem? Is there anyway to adjust the white?? Its driving me crazy its almost like a permanent vintage effect on the my screen that i cannot remove..

    Try Window's color calibration.

Press Fn and the C key on the keyboard and cycle through the Asus "Splendid" color options. For some reason all but normal look very lemon yellow. Maybe you hit that key combo by accident and enabled on of these alternate color settings.

I find that even the normal profile is too yellowish and was using a custom profile with color temp set to 6500 . It removed the tint on most colors except for white which still looked like yellow. I am guessing it has no effect on black and white only the colors in between just like how gamma doesn't affect black and white. Anyway I used window's color calibration and reduced red and green by 1 bar. its now looking much better.

This is what I was talking about, and thats on normal profile

Have you updated to firmware 2.06? It drops the yellow tint from all profiles considerably. It was listed as an optional update, but it really should be mandatory since it gets the yellow out ;)

Lisa G, you are a genius. I just spent 2 hrs trying to fix this yellow tint problem. It was finally fixed by your suggestion that I toggle through the color options which are opened up by pressing the "fn + c" keys at the same time. Thank you!

Well, I'm glad to know you got the color the way you want it. That picture on the right looks TOO white, while the left looks a little more accurate (but still, too warm).

Is your color profile/settings somewhere in-between those? Also, there are calibration tools/programs for more accurate color representation and gamma correction + NTSC gamut accuracy.

Just ordered a UX31A-DB71 and find this thread a bit perplexing. The observation first showed up right at the time this series was put on the market, then there are no mentions of it at all until the past month or so. You would think by the lack of posts since July that Asus cured the problem, or that Lisa G's approach took care of it for everyone. Is this a recurring problem or is it just that some of them roll off the line needing a firmware update or the Fn/C toggle?

    Thanks

well my asus is running a pretty new firmware (2.12) and the issue is still there.
the Fn/C refers to the splendid program which can be used to make color adjustments, of course you can water down the yellow tint there a bit, but if you are having a very much yellow screen (in "normal" mode in splendid) to start with its not so easy. even chosing the default "cold" option wasnt satisfying for me so i had reduce the green and red sliders myself, right now i went from 50 (default settings) to just above 30 for green and red "gain", and for offset even from 50 to 0! blue remained at 50. the result is far from being perfect as some yellow tint remains and the screen also got darker, thats mostly why i didnt reduce the values even further.

but what i dont know is if thats the same for all or most asus with ips screen, i hope ill get an answer here!

It's a fairly common reoccurrence, but it's also relative. Everyone sees color differently, although the screens and color profiles are generally calibrated the same off the assembly line, as far as I am aware.

it is definetely subjective but what i can say for sure is that this is the strongest yellow tint i have ever had on any screen, display, monitor, tv set i owned. never even attempted to make color adjustments like before so i dont think im obsessed with it normally.

No, it sounds like it's egregious, so I'm sure you're far from being persnickety about it. :p But from what I've heard and seen, it's a good quality picture, once you have your color profile sorted.

no big deal for me. I sold the laptop. It looked like a dog peed on the screen. I lost 50$ but ohh well. 1080p on a 13" screen is crazy anyways.

It appears this was the problem for me, thanks! :) I kinda freaked out when it happened because I thought the screen was going bad.
