The other day, when my UX32VD laptop was very cold (just boot up), I loaded BF3 and to my surprise the following occurred:

Full HD Resolution smooth gameplay 50-60 fps for ~15 minutes.

I was really shocked to see this smooth gameplay at maximum resolution, so I pressed escape to confirm video settings and it was at full HD (1920x1080) resolution. The game looked GREAT like this too.

About 15 minutes later, gameplay became "choppy" (like usual at high res) and I lowered the resolution for smoother gameplay. I'm assuming the GPU/CPU heat increase caused the slow down, but it got me thinking how wonderful it would be to play this game smoothly at FULL HD resolution all the time :D. Has anyone had success with this game and upgrading the thermal paste for the gpu / cpu?

BF3 has had some utilization bugs, among others. I think they were more so founded with AMD drivers.

You might want to look into your temp readings. If they're getting high, your GPU and/or CPU will throttle and that could explain why your FPS lower after x amount of time.

Also, it helps to have the laptop slightly elevated and not have the vent(s) obstructed by anything. Laptop chill pads help to a degree as well. And the ambient temperature also plays a part. :)

Cooling pad, connected external monitor and keyboard (I repurposed my desktop into a home server) is my plan if I ever want to play games off my UX32VD.

Comparing before and after temperatures, I think it was something software-based or software-glitch that gave the huge boost in FPS at the higher resolution. I say this because the Temperaturs were never extremely hot when I was getting perfectly smooth gameplay at full HD Resolution. Or Perhaps, the CPU/GPU is clocks down to less speed at temperatures below 75 degrees Celsius (which shouldn't be as I understand it)???

No throttling should not kick in below 75 C, and I candidly doubt there was any software glitch/bug of any kind that teased you with high performance gaming for 15 minutes and then went into hiding from there on out.

I think something else is at play here.

It could be a memory leak in the game I suppose.
