Hi. I am about to pull a plug on the UX501JW-FI177H, which has 16GB of ram, a 128GB SSD + 1000GB HDD and a touchscreen, but it will come out to about 1.8x the price of a UX501JW-DM122H, which has 8GB of ram, a 1000GB HDD and a non-touch display.

I was just wondering about people's thoughts on the two models.

I would also appreciate some information on people's experience with ASUS's two-drive set-up. Does installing windows and other software on the SSD and leaving files on the HDD make the laptop appreciably snappier than a laptop with just an HDD?

I'd go with the non-touch. Matte screens are always more beautiful for me. Touchscreens are heavy, glossy, and rarely used. Additionally, the UX501 touch is very glossy, more reflective than your usual touchscreen. The additional 8 GB of RAM won't really do much (at least in 2015). 4K? I don't get the point, not like the 960M is gonna run triple A games on 4k.

It's a value call you really need to make, for a lot of uses 8GB is fine, the SSD is nice and the touchscreen varies a lot for people.
