I can´t info about this.
The ASUS V1Jp which has ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 with up to 512MB HyperMemory, does it have any dedicated on board RAM on the graphic card ?
Thanks

All discrete cards have dedicated RAM. I would suspect 256 for the X1700. The rest is dynamically allocated from the system RAM.
But I'm no expert on these things (i.e. numbers for video cards). Anyway, there certainly is dedicated RAM. -
Yeah, I suspect 256 too, but ASUS doesn´t mention it anywhere ?!

I think this will be my next notebook in any case...

Asus's official specs state "ATI X1700 512 MB Hyper memory (256 MB dedicated VRAM)".

Ahh ok, I didn´t look well enough then, I went to the global website, not the US.

I was wondering about this too because on the specs page for the X1700 on ATi's site - http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonx1700/specs.html - there is no mention of whether it is a 256 or 512 card. But I will trust the specs, reviews, listings and Milestone.

They don't mention it there because the manufacturer can put however much RAM they want on the card.

In my opinion, the V2 also looks better. If you don't need a laptop right at this moment, the V2 is definitely an option to consider. As you get closer to the time when you need the laptop, I recommend filling out a FAQ in the "what notebook should I buy" forum so other notebook experts can advise you. -
I read a review of the V2 in danish, they were not too happy about it: http://www.laptopworld.dk/index.php?id=372 - besides I already have a thread started about my needs here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=109216
Thanks
