    Hi to everybody!

I am trying to find a solution to my problem for a week now, but without any success.

I have Asus VX6S EEE PC with freshly installed Win7 Home Premium 64bit.
Everything works fine except display dimming option. Display works @ full brightness all the time regardless it is plugged in or is on battery.
I have installed all latest drivers (according to driveragent & drivermax pro), latest BIOS from Asus home page (VX6S.0501).
The only original software/driver that was not installed is the KBFilter from official VX6S download page. Asus officially offers for VX6S 32bit KBFilter even if I choose 64bit OS and, of course, 32bit drivers cannot be installed. I've tried KBfilter drivers for other Asus models, that have 64bit OS support, but situation hasn't changed. All Fn combinations work except dimming. By pressing Fn+F5/F6 I can see only animation of sliding brightness bar w/out any real change to brightness.
I tried to change brightness via Power Options. I have a brightness slider there, but it also does not affect to display's brightness.
Making changes/creating custom Power plans also do not help.

I would say this problem is really annoying taking into account that full brightness impacts to battery life.

    Your help is really appreciated.

    Thanks!

Did the dimming work before the fresh install of win 7 ? Desktop | Ubuntu
Download Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS and create a CD. From this CD do not install Ubuntu, just run it as a live session and see if dimming will work, that may narrow this down to a Windows issue.
This CD is very handy for troubleshooting.

Did it come with 64 bit windows, or did you move from 32 bit?

If you go to devmgmt.msc (device manager), do you have any items with yellow exclamation points or red X symbols?

    Thanks for replies!

Netbook was supplied with Win7 HP 64bit. Dimming didn't work. I reinstalled Win7 HP 64bit using own distributive, all drivers from ASUS page (except KBFilter, that could not be installed stating that my OS version is not supported), then all latest drivers from vendors sites, but every listed step didn't solve the problem. I tried to install KBFilter drivers for other ASUS models, tried different HotKey software versions with no success.
No unknown devices, exclamation points or X symbols in Device Manager as well.

I have never dealt with Linux before, but I will try to create Live CD and check the outcome. I am almost sure this is a Win7 64bit + driver problem, as ASUS is not providing KBFilter for exact model with 64bit support despite PC is coming with preinstalled 64bit OS.
Maybe someone knows another ASUS laptop with Intel NM10 express chipset and Radeon HD 6470M graphics card? I could try KBFilter from this model, if such laptop ever produced.

    Time has passed.
LiveCDs did not work for me.
I ended up with a replace of motherboard and display under warranty. It has solved my brightness problem :)
