I've been contemplating the purchase of the Asus VX7 - I adore the style, completely fell in love with.

I was wondering in the future if it would be possible to upgrade the CPU, and how difficult it would be (if it's even possible).

I'm looking to purchase early next week, I've had so many issues with a recent Alienware order that I'm switching brands.

    Thanks in advance.

Would help more if you can confirm which model you have so that we can advise on the correct processor. The most recent has a sandy bridge so I would assume you do not have that one if you are seeking an upgrade.

Either way I am going to recommend to you an Extreme Processor depending on which model it is.

Be it a C2Duo extreme X9xxx or a C2Quad Extreme Q9xxx or an Intel I7 XM 920/940 etc. However confirm your model and then can list you what will work.

Wow I feel stupid, my iPad corrected GPU to CPU.

Ok so what I meant was the graphics card, it comes with the 460m, but this one is a 3gb 460m - I don't know what the advantage of that is....

Anyways just wondering if it would be possible to track down a 580m in a few months once it's available in some Asus models, and replace it in the laptop.

Here's a link to the laptop

There isn't any *real* advantage. It's like having 16gb of ram but only a 32bit operating system.

As for upgrades, no one can tell you / know until the new models come out.

Lol! Hit that nail right on the head right there.

To be honest you dont really need to upgrade you have the latest model. Overclock your Core/Shader and you have a 3GB 560M. Easiest upgrade you will ever make.

Your CPU is as Chastity confirmed on par with an I7 950 so you do not need an upgrade. If you wanted massive overkill then you could look at a 2920XM but it would be just that. Overkill with a 460M.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

I just want to make sure this laptop can last, I love the design, and the only downfall seems to be the 460m (everybody on the forums tends to knock this card at ever opportunity)

I was just trying to get some final input before purchase, just making sure if the time comes, I can upgrade my graphics card.

Asus are mid range laptops, mid range cards and when they do attempt to put in a high end card like they did when the 5870M was released it went pear shaped because of heat, drivers and poor Vbios.

Overclock it to the max and enjoy. :D
