Hello everyone,
I bought a N55SF-s1060v hoping to get a nice multi-purpose laptop. For the most part this is true, but it seems that something is wrong with the bundled Cyberlink software.
All software in the ASUS Video Magic folder needs registration. This is most notable for PowerDVD10 as I now cannot play Blu-ray discs. I can imagine that ASUS might supply bloatware that is not fully functional, but right now it seems I cannot play any Blu-ray discs before paying 50$ to Cyberlink. This seems quite strange to me as it should be functional OEM software? I have previously owned ASUS notebooks and never had trouble like this.
I asked ASUS for help and got a link to a completely outdated WinDVD8 that does not have a functional AACS key. Alternatively they recommended to restore factory defaults. As I already have installed a lot of things since then I am not really planning to do this, especially as the problem was already there from the moment I installed my laptop for the first time from a fresh factory installation.
Also I tried to remove Video Magic and the associated software and reinstall from the recovery partitionusing e-Driver and the problems persists.
Obviously my question is now: Does anyone know how I might solve this as a blu-ray drive that cannot be used is rather annoying.
Thanks in advance!

Luckily I was able to solve it and post it here just in case someone else encounters this problem.
In the end the solution is to uninstall Video Magic and search for the 3in1 suite install directory on the CD that came with the laptop. Run setup.exe from there. If you install the 3in1 suite from the ASUS installer that starts with autorun the bug will persist so you have to manually go to the correct directory and run setup.exe.
ASUS Video Magic needs registration on fresh laptop?
