seems like the holy grail to me. The W2PB-7M005M is the exact one im after. The HD-DVD and the 1920 x 1200 screen in the clincher for me.
the perfect laptop for what im after.
i love the total package of the G2 with the bag and mouse and the looks of the G2 and i would be heaven if it could be upgraded to the better hd-dvd drive and better screen, but alas that doesnt appear to be happening anytime soon, infact if just the screen could be upgraded to at least 1650 x 1050 i would be happy and go with that purchase.
But the W2PB with 1920 x 1200 screen combined with the HD-DVD monitor and HDMI out is also a cheats way for me to get into the HD-DVD arena. I am going to set up a new home theater system in the next few years, but am waiting until there is a proper audio solution available to harness the benefits of HD-DVD, until then the HD-DVD that comes with the lappie will be a suitable substitute until i get the proper system.
The resolution is very very important for me as i do cad work so the higher the better. I currently use a 20.1" screen with a resolution of 1650 x 1050 with my desktop and would love to keep that size, however with the benefit of the laptop being able to be used elsewhere
The question is, and i ask as i notice there are many here that seem to have some professional knowledge of ASUS workings is when it is likely that this laptop is going to hit the market.
i will be purchasing a laptop within the next few months.
its uses will be Games, CAD (Revit), School (going back to finish my architecture degree) and General Computing.
I have a current P4 3.2 Ghz that im wanting to turn into a media centre and the Laptop will take over my general computing tasks.
the last question is.
I have Win XP Pro SP2 on my PC, and the Lappie comes with Wn XP MCE
is it a simple process to unintall the Win XP MCE on the PC and install the XP Pro on the lappie.
i have proper versions of Win XP, and i assume the MCE that the lappie comes with will be offical so it should be a case of just un-installing and installing the appropriate software?
i dont know how the licenses works with laptops is all.

As far as Windows goes, it depends on what version of Windows you have on your PC and the laptop.
If they are OEM versions, they are only licensed to one system--meaning they are not supposed to be installed on or transfered to any other systems.
If they are retail versions, they can be installed on different systems provided that they are uninstalled from the original system. -
meaning, will i not be able to install the MCE version that comes with the laptop on a PC? -

I've seen some conflicting reports about the W2P's resolution. Some say its 1920 x 1200 and some say its 1680 x 1050. So, which one of this is true ?
MileStonePc - when you get the W2P next week, will i be able to configure it or do i just have to select the 2 configurations you have on the site? -
1920x1200 is only available with the HD-Rom, the 1680x1050 one is more afordable but without the HD thingi, normal dual layer dvd combo. This is wat i heard from them last time.

And higher model is 2800$ USD and comes with, Asus Notebook W2PB / Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor T7200/2G DDR2 RAM/ 160G 5400rpmHD/ ATI Mobility? Radeon? X1700 256MB GDDR3/ 17"(WUXGA)(1920X1200) LCD/HD-DVD R/W.
@f1oyd1an if you don't mind emailing us, regarding customization of the new W2PB, we will happily assist you, my email is in my signature. -
What are the capabilities of the HD ROM. Is it also a RW dual layer dvd combo?
-
HD rom can writes DVDs too , If I'm right. Because IT should support older format CD ,DVD as far as write them. I'm not gonna pay extra for an HD drive that can't wire regular DVD.
The W2P is too sexy and I don't have much money to afford it. I don't use my computer to make money, so i'm not gonna spend much on computers. Anyway , it's One of the best looking 17" out there. -

We don't know for sure if these units will come in next week, but I've tried out the wuxga screen on one and I must say, even for a graphics professional that that's like a high-res junky, it's high.... With vista it's quite nice because you can scale the fonts much better than in xp, so you can have simply a more graphics intense exterience, without what most people see as a downfall to higher resolutions........ However, most of these people who think that - believe WSXGA+ is too high for a 17", so watch out.
Personally I think 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) is perfect on a 23" widescreen..... and 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+) is "perfect" somewhere between 15.4" and 17".... so it's excellent on both I believe...... As for WUXGA on a 17", you have to kno what you're getting into, but the W2 can certainly power it with it's x1700 and with some of the added features of Vista, eventually you'll be able to make use of it a bit more efficiently. The ETA to Asus has beeen about 1/15/07 for the last couple weeks.... and things weren't confirmed until after a small shipment left Taiwan. The only problem is that only 10-15 are even coming in. -
I was wondering if anybody knows that this laptop can be found in-stock at Best Buy for Business? Here is the LINK. You have to sign up for a Business account but it is painless. Also a tip for you, if you sign up and add it to your cart, then log out without making a purchase you will get an e-mail offering you 5% off if you fill in a 7 question survey. The price is the lowest I have seen on this laptop it is listed as $1820.88 - 5% is only $1729.84, shipping cost me $6.51 and tax was $143.37. The order total was $1879.72. I should have it in 4 to 7 days, I'll keep you posted.

umm...the link you have posted is for the asus g2, not the w2

Yeah, ditto that... that's a link to the G2 and although they have the W2pb w/ the wuxga screen listed, they will certainly not have stock before Asus' dedicated dealers. Plus, you can't purchase Asus' extended global warranty through them... and you obviously paid tax because best buy has locations in every state..
If you think you just bought the W2, you'll be sad to see the G2, even though it's a good system for the money. -
This was the description for the one I ordered, and when I ordered it it was in stock, not 1 - 2 week ship.
ASUS W2PB-7K003M - Black, Windows MCE 2005, 17.1 WXGA+, Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz, TV Tuner Bluetooth HDMI - 100gb hd - 1 x 1gb DDR2 ram. Slot load dvd
I hope that is what comes in! Either way I win, I did a PSP on a e-Machine 6811 (2.5 year old laptop) and paid $204 out of pocket for my order. The specs for the ASUS G2P-7R001M look good I found it at newegg LINK.

Ok, well the link you gave was wrong, and the pricing is that of what you linked to...... so although I could believe you copied the wrong link by accident, it's a bit more difficult to type the completely wrong price by accident, but if that's what you say I'm cool with that. Also, the W2 you're looking at is the current model, not exactly what is being talked about here....
Yes, the specs of the G2 are a good, that's the point.... but it weighs a pound or more than the W2 and certainly isn't the same overall quality.... that's why the G2 is a hell of a lot cheaper than the W2 to start with. -
If you check the link again it will now show the W2PB-7K003M as it did when I placed the order. However, the price is now $2,301.64, and yes it is in stock. I called about my order which shipped yesterday via UPS and has a delivery date of Monday the 15th. The Guy on the Phone said it was the W2PB, so again I will keep you posted.
