Currently, I am looking for a new notebook, and I will most probably buy the W2J.

However, I've got some questions. I've seen the notebook for sale in one Dutch store, but any other information isn't available yet.

Are they actually available for sale yet in Europe?

I'd also like to know whether I could expect problems comparable to the problems of the W2V, I mean I am planning to buy a perfect notebook, not one with several problems, ofcourse no one knows this yet, but from experience you might have an idea.

    Thanks.

I don't see why the slight audio problem from the W2v would carry on.

The W2j isn't using the same realtek audio chip as it presented a hardware limitation when trying to output to a simple full range speaker...... it wanted to seperate the lows prior to the jack... but that was the only issue anyone's had with the W2v and Asus physically has replaced that chip with something else to eliminate that hardware limitation on future models.

I'm not an expert, but all of the literature I've seen online indicates that the W2J will ship with Windows MCE.

.. yeah, it'll be MCE..... why must I tell you it's not? There's nothing wrong with MCE unless you're on a corporate network that uses a domain controller... That honestly eliminates most of the people buying the system..

I've been pretty happy with MCE, and considering this is really a notebook geared for basically replacing your TV...it makes an awful lot of sense :D

    justin,

that's actually exactly why i can't use MCE....it won't work with our network. Is it possible to upgrade to XP Pro?...either pre- or post-delivery?
Unfortunately, the W2J is the best spec'd, best looking ASUS on the US horizon....what's a guy to do???

there is an easily performed modification to the "OS" (although not legal i am sure) that allows MCE to have the ability to join domains. i know that once completed it works perfectly..... i stumbled on it over at "thegreenbutton.com". i am in no way advocating using it but thought i would throw it out there for your knowledge.

    Hey,
primary, I have to excuse myself for my (probably) bad english - I´m calling from Germany,so....
I´m really interrested in the upcoming W2J - but I´ve read a few negative aspects about the previous model W2VC.... I really hope, someone of you allready knows more about it and could help me out maybe!
    1) Could I expect a better TV- Performence than on the W2VC?
    2) Will Asus subsitute the obviously quite unhandy Mobile Theater- Software by just using MCE for Multimedia? or
    3) will the remote- contoll and the TV- Tuner work with MCE, at least?
    4) What exactly can "InstantFun" do? (TV, RAdio, files from Harddisc) I read very different things about this, so....
    5) How good are the internal speakers actually? HOw is the sound (metallic? full? loud?....)! CAn they replace external solutions (at least for hearing music on my own)? How they are in comparison to the Carbon- speakers of the toshiba- qosmios, for example? I read very different things about this, as well....
So far, i´d be really thankfull, if anyone could help me out - thank you very much, Marten
