It's finally up on the ASUS Global site. Don't see many major changes, which is a good thing, the W2 has been an ideal 17" media machine for a long time, and with good reasoning.

I would expect the price to be similar to the past W2 pricing.

Not a Radeon HD 2600 XT? Interesting...Hopefully the GDDR3 2600 is a performer.
-
i must say that is a real purdy machine...although I would prefer a Nvidia card over that of a Nvidia one
but hey beggars cant be choosers
-
How is the price?
The HD2600, unlike the 8600M GS, isn't crippled, it has the same technical specs as the XT
The difference is the clocks. You can probably OC it to get the same performances, especially if it's GDDR3
XT: 700/700 (or 650?)
Non-XT: 500/650 (or 600?)
Sincei th as almost the same specs, is the F3SA a GDDR3 HD2600? -
yeah thats secksy as hell so the price will be what 2500ish ?
-
The F3k is another upcoming notebook, AMD X2 with HD2600, but again, no specs for us to see, but I expect it to have a MSRP of $1399 or so. Kinda like the previous gen F3jp, uber cheap with uber performance.
-
2600 > 8600?
and where will you be able to get these? -
Yes the HD2600 are better than the 8600.
There is only one HD2600XT laptop and it is midway between the 8600GT GDDR3 and the 8700GT
The HD2600 is better than the 8600M GS since the GS has 16 shaders rather than 32 while the 2600 keeps all of her 120 ones. The 2600 is a 200mhz (500 versus 700) underclocked XT.
The Mobility 2600 are also based on the HD2900, not the HD2600
@Coriolis: I just checked and it seems the F3K (at least in germany) comes with a X2300 -
Wonder when this will be released. Might have to look at this instead of the G2S
-
I'm craving to see the price with 1680x1050, DVD drive and T7300
-
-
I want to get one, but i dont want the hd-dvd or blu ray.
-
Okay the F3Ka, the F3K I saw was a german one with a X2300
512MB? It's probably DDR2 but still! At 1199 I'm sold! I just hope they don't change the second 1 for a 6 in Canada though
EDIT; NCIX has it for 1299CAD. It's 2 years warranty so it's okay for me.
Thanks dude! You just save my ass! I was looking to a similar Toshiba but it was like 1800
EDIT2: Dammit, the european model comes with 256MB GDDR3 -
A lot of manufacturers are just 'saying' their HD 2600 is 512mb, even though it's 256/256 shared. So the F3ka miiiight have GDDR3, but at that price I doubt it
-
Yeah I know BUT every cards (GF6-7-8 and Radeon HD) are shared on Vista.
With 2GB system (the case here) the GF8 will take up to 766MB of the system RAM and Radeon will take 512-766 to make it at 1GB
Finally from what I saw, the euro model has 512MB too but on *every* website in spanish it was written 256MB GDDR3. The code name was not the same (F3KA-006 while the 512MB version are F3Ka-001) -
when will it be released ????
i'm teetering on getting a new laptop and the only reason the w line has been dismissed is because of its lack of santa-rosa -
Looks like a good lappy!
About the GPU, we know the HD2600 > 8600GS but we don't know about HD2600XT vs 8600GT. I think performance is going to come down to how high Asus decides to clock the GPU if it is truly 512mb GDDR3. -
A GDDR3 2600XT will beat a DDR2 8600GT, this is almost sure.
The 2600XT with a T7700 scores 4000 in 3DM06 while the G2S (T7500?) gets a 3600. The CPU does not affect that much (I'm getting 3400 with a desktop 8600GT and a Sempron 3100+).
The desktop 2600XT is about the XFX 8600GT XXX (620/800 versus 540/700) -
dude is the webcam built in this time or not? I'd prefer a brighter screen. My z84j screen is bad now.
-
Webcam for the W2? I don't know if ASUS added one, but if they did, I would guarantee it will be molded into the LCD bezel.
As for the screen, I'd expect a Dual Lamp WUXGA+ screen, like the one in the G2. -
This is a few months old, I think 2 months old. Interesting upgrade on the graphics, but the rest should be similiar.
-
Graphics by ATI and its using an 8400... interesting.
-
please be blu ray please be blue ray please be blu ray
(i already have an hd dvd player) -
i want to be able to get it without either. i couldn't care less about high density optical discs at this point.
-
Nice, I ve been waiting for this for like forever.
-
i on the other hand want to have all of my bases covered in the hd war being that i have a fancy tv and stereo to take advantage of the formats. -
-
yeah but if you don't have a 1920x1080 source than whats the big deal on a laptop primarily designed for multi media playback.
and i know the gamers love their ridicules resolution but... honestly its only a 17" screen... -
Anyway, i care, because i want the most screen real estate i can get, plus 1080p for use in the future. And with a 2600hd i'd probably use it for gaming. -
yeah... i thought that and then after i left was like... mehh bigger is always better.
-
-
A bit high =/
-
Really? Cause the MSRP of the W2 has traditionally been $2700+ CDN(Or $2500+ USD) ever since the W2n. It's a huge discount if the price is correct.
-
yeah why was it so expensive. are tv tuners really that expensive
i mean you can get the top end g2 with better screen and better g-card for way less. -
It seems from different online sites that it would only have the possibility of up to 2gb of RAM (which is I guess the situation with its predecessors).
Why would they do that, and do you believe that to be the case?
Wouldn't it seem silly to buy at the moment such an expensive notebook without the possibility of more RAM (it is certainly big enough).
It would significantly decrease the range of people who would be interested in it. -
Build quality, build materials, just some of the reason for its price tag. For example, Brushed aluminum body and lid, buttons and touchpad, chrome outlinings, 17" WUXGA Dual Lamp screen, Carbon Fibre LCD Bezel and bottom, 7.2lbs, 1.2" thick, just to name a few things.

The G2s is plastic, emulated carbon fibre and emulated brushed aluminum. It has some, but not alot. Check out the review of the W2/Z83, the Z83 is pretty much the A7, the G2 is a modified A7.
-
thanks... btw though that link doesn't work for me
