Okay, I know there is already a topic on this subject. However, I have a specific question, so I thought I would make a new topic for it.

Whenever I play Oblivion, the CPU temperature gets up to around 95°, according to my RightMark CPU clock utility. Whenever I hear my fan start whirring too much, I exit Oblivion, and sure enough the temperature is around 95°, sometimes as high as 97°. I have the feeling this is very bad. I have tried lowering the resolution, turning down the graphics settings as much as possible, disabling all the fancy video card effects, but it still happens every time. It only takes a few minutes of playing to get this hot, too.

Any ideas on what I should do to keep my computer cooler? I doubt there's much dust blocking the vent; I only got this computer in February. Should I just not worry about it and keep playing even when RightMark says the CPU is at 95°?

Assuming that you have this laptop for some while now, there might be dust blocking the Airway. Try the cooling guide.

Thanks for the tip! I had my doubts, but I blew out the fan with some compressed air. I was surprised how much dust there was even though I've only had this laptop for 4-5 months! Now it only gets up to 80° when I play Oblivion. Is this still too hot, or am I clear now?

Given the stresses that Oblivion places on both cpu and gpu, 80C is normal - no further reason to worry.

I regularly reach 80° when processing large batches of RAWs with Photoshop. Then again, I'm running a T7200 so it may run a little hotter than a stock chip but 80° isn't anything to worry about when the processor is under a heavy load.

Once when I stressed my W3J to the max (with a Core Duo CPU), the CPU temp reached 80C.
