W3J sell for NT$52800 in Taiwan, it is about USD$1620. Its dimension and weight are 330 x 247 x 30-32.7 mm (W x D x H), 2.4 kg (with 8 cell battery), it's about 5.3 pounds.
I'm not sure about these specs and price above in Taiwan will be the same as US modle. But, somehow I am a little disappoint with this modle, because it only is Duo Core T2300 (1.66GHz), why ASUS don't make it become Duo Core T2400 or T2500 like Proportable.![]()
And there are some newest pics what W3J look like! Its color looks kind of dark and COOL.. Enjoy!!(I think tounchpad likes pretty cool, too!!)

Those specs...I think the US/North American model will have the same specs.
Thanks for the info.
From the looks of it... the W3J has a darker colour tone than the its predecessor. I like it! -
Us model has changed slightly. Looks like were getting the 1.83 processor and a dual layer DVD burner and a 50$ price increase.

darn it my sister just came back from taiwan yesterday. it wasnt out yet when she was there.

Is TYPE II PCMCIA slot the same as express card slot???
Just curious if type 2 makes it express, or if It's just the second generation PCMCIA slot, which is still behind the express slot technology wise.
If It is still PCMCIA and not express, then It's interesting that the above W3J in Taiwan still has it present...I wonder If the North American W3J will for sure have an express card slot over PCMCIA if It's present on the Taiwanese model. -
They kinda cheap.
So I fix it right away! Thanks for reminding me!!

PCMCIA
EXPRESS CARD
@ Israel---Everything I've read here in the forums and from ProPortable, G2P, etc, suggests that it is an Express Card slot. Just search this forum and you'll find a fair number of posts. -

disappointing looks... also, i hoped for the fan to be on the back like in SZ or at least on the left side

Most people over here are totally in love with the V1J, although I really appreciate the specs and its weight, I don't like the design at all.
Could anyone tell me how many weeks the W3J is on the ASUS site now?
I'd like to know when to expect the final specs of the W1J -
I don't see how this design is old fashioned... I mean
1) It's a refresh of the W3V... so it would only make sense that it would look similar
2) The W3 design is unique to begin with... since Asus designed it from the ground up. -
oh maybe because it has a keyboard and a screen
tch. so old fashioned..
w3 has its advantages, designwise
but i guess like many things in life, it won't satsify everyone; ppl vary in taste n needs anw..
for some however, it's just about right.. -
israel781028 have you checked in Taipei to see if the Asus W3J is available locally yet? I'm in Taichung right now... If it's available locally I might go down to the computer store and take some pics and check it out, then report back my findings
The good thing about Asus being a Taiwanese company is it's cheaper here. The expected retail price in the US is $1799 for the basic config.

wwoooottt..
jason u have to find it, and tell us!
oh
if we buy from taiwan,
would the OS installed be in chinese too? -
I r still want da DVI output
-
About the same casing than z63a/w3.
So should we suppose the swappable optical bay will still be there ? -

Wow, looks great to me. Now only if the US version would hurry up and ship
-
I am sure Justin will announce something when he has the information. Hopefully very soon.

I'm just wondering what the trackpad and mouse button(s) actually look like. On the first page, you have 2 different pictures - one that looks like the old W3v, and one that looks like the awesome, though unconfirmed, picture of the W3j from the Asus site.
-
Is the touch pad on the w3j bigger then the one on the w3v?
-
I don't think anyone knows for sure yet...without a final production model (specif. for me - one intended for the US) - I would guess that it's not and bigger given it's the same chassis. But if you look at the bottom picture on the first page of this thread, that's the images from Asus Global with the single (though dual click) mouse button w/ the trackpad w/ the dots.
-
yeah it was my personal opinion about looks. Before I buy something whether it's a shirt or a laptop I always consider looks first and features second.... Eventhough featurewise it's perfect, to me w3j lacks in the looks department.
but hey I am a graphic designer and if I was working at Asus designing notebooks I would never let this one go into production for the 2nd time! -
-
Justin of Proportable.com is in contact with Asus. He said they were most likely going to go with the 1.83 for the US and then just tweak the price and config a little. He has not stated anything about a final configuration yet and its always subject to change till Asus makes its final decision and Justin informs us whats going on.
-
I dont know if anyone caught on to this but..
80Gb harddisk 5400RPM ?
I thought it was going to be 100Gb -
Note, North American AND worldwide versions will be DIFFERENT

Its on the site now : p -
Darn it, i wish it had a pointing stick (and a higher resolution). I wish I wasn't so freaking picky...
-
Oh sweet!!!! I'm asking my mom to check out the price and everything, lucky me she's back in taiwan right now.
-
Or Chinese culture enthusiast?!
And I'm not sure it will available in store... I think it will only on online shopping center for now, because W3J is very new laptop that came out just few days...
