proportable dude, you need to get another hobby. Does ASUS pay you to make them look petty and ridiculous, or do you do that pro bono?

Jared dont insult your own intellegence with comments like that.

Try and be grateful for the information you are recieving and realise that the only thing pro bono about this, is the fact that Justin comes on these forums everyday to give us valuble information that isnt readily available elsewhere, for FREE.

So if you dont want to hear it, dont log on to this website and waste your time. But definatley dont waste mine and others' prescious seconds reading your trash.

    Kind Regards
    Adrian.

This laptop have a real crappy screen.
Ho my god have you seen that view angle?
Is it a joke or what?
I hope for asus the new w3v have a more decent screen because this one is so crappy.
And justin from proportable stop saying **** juste for selling your laptops and dont think people are stupid. If you were honnest you must admin that the screen s really bad.
I hope for you the w3v dont have the same screen or you gonna receive a lot of complaints from people that have pre order it.
Because you never sayed that the screen is so bad when you received the demo laptop.
So if the w3v have the same screen that mean YOU ARE A LIAR.

Wow... Ok, lets see... I never said anything.... but it's certainly not the worst screen in the world.

It is a good 14" widescreen..... period. What else do I need to say about it? Larger screens are better, and should be. Viewing angles are more limited the smaller the screen gets and 14" is pretty small. The screen is going to be better than the W5 screen, so I think people who just recieved those might want to comment. Nothing else at 14" widescreen is much different (good or bad) compared to this screen. No one is expecting this little screen to be perfect, and they are buying the notebook based on the specs, period.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm not even going to argue with someone who can't provide more than a shot from a camera phone........ Regardless, people are buying the unit and they have that great camera phone shot to turn them on or off.... I think the bottom line is, most people use a notebook that small for personal use...... it's not time to invite the whole family to watch a movie on...... so vertical viewing angle... horizontal viewing angle..... whatever.... it can be 1 degree..... and that is all 99% of people buying a laptop like this care about it.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Would you *want* everyone around you to be able to see what you're doing? If I'm in a public place trying to get some work done or whatever, maybe it is in my best interest that the person sitting next to me doesn't have a great view of what I'm doing. All that matters to me is that the picture looks great when I look at it spot on. Though, I can't help but drool every time I walk past my coworker's S2XP - that is a very nice, "wet" image... I hope the W3V will be somewhat like that screen because I can just see WoW dripping out of a screen like that...

Great points jerrylin and Justin. All that matters is that *I* can see the screen. I actually don't want my neighbors or everyone around me looking at what I'm doing - it's none of their business. And I don't often find myself bobbing up and down and side-to-side when I'm working at the computer, so viewing angles just don't seem all that important to me. If you're using the damn thing as a portable DVD player, why don't you just buy one of those? And hey, if you want to share your DVDs with your friends, I saw a great little system with two separate screens for $500CDN. That's a lot cheaper than a notebook computer.

You're right, they are both wxga, so sharpness wise, the W5 is better because it's smaller and technically to have the same resolution fit on a smaller screen, the pixels are smaller. Smaller pixels means sharper.

However, look at it this way, please...... the M5/S5 have a great resolution for their 12" size screen. 14" widescreen is a 12" standard screen, plus about 2" to the right side. XGA is a great 12" regular screen display..... WXGA just adds width to XGA..... so it's a perfect resolution for a 14" widescreen.

WXGA on a 12" widescreen.... which is more like a 10" standard screen is very high. I dont' know when the last time I saw a 10" screen, but SVGA would be high res for that screen....... however I don't think I've ever seen a WSVGA, so... I don't know....... basically though, the W5 has the sharpest screen (which means the pixels will be the smallest per area) or basically every other screen we have... just do the math.) Plus, with the size of the screen, physically they ARE the smallest pixels....... which means finding a dead pixel would be almost impossible with perfect vision...

Both good resolutions, but the W5 has more res than most people would need.

    Thanks,
    Justin

the smaller the screen (for the most part), the faster the respond times...... period... thats one of the best things about the smaller you go.

Like I said before, unless you have an enormous head with eyes seperated by about three feet, go ahead and use the notebook at a 45, 75 degree angle... this isn't a 15", 17" notebook........ it's not like the screen disappears, but the smaller you get the more it'll wash out at extreme angles.... when you can acknowledge that you using a little 12 or 14" widescreen would be much different then a 15.4" or 17" widescreen..... or a 17/19/20 some inch desktop montior...... then you're on the right level.

Some people like a glossy widescreen (those people should be graphics professionals that need truer color representation), but other peple "just have to have it"

For most people who are just typers, or work in a lighted environment like an office, usually preferr or should anyway... a matted, standard ratio screen.......

Both of those senarios probably fit about 85% of people... but when more than 15% of the forum disagrees with me, thats ok too.... I would assume we don't have average people in here.... so I would think I'd see a mix of those uses in here.... like a gamer who wants standard screen with a glossy finish..... of a widescreen witha matte finish.....

    Thanks,
    Justin

i already thought about that and i'm curious to see the w5 screen working but what i really need to know is that the w5 screen is better because it's crystal shine besides color shine and has for example ... better view angles (something you already know that are bothering some people in the w3), better response times (rjtd said the w3 is fast anyway).
