I have moved your post to a new thread since I'd like to keep the Info Booth "clean".

We do not seem to have a disassembly guide for the W5. Why don't you post more details about your problem, maybe we can offer advice anyway.

I had wanted to get a better idea how the laptop was laid out before doing any work on it. It has a broken LCD. I ended up removing the bezel and taking the old screen out and installing a new one. Unfortunately when i tried to boot up the laptop after installing the replacement lcd the power would come on for 3 seconds then shutdown. No image or light from the new lcd. I hooked up the old one again to test laptop just in case i somehow damaged the laptop. (I am pretty careful, I have been working on computers for quite sometime. I have a grounded bench and wear esd strap at all times while working.) When i hooked up the old lcd it lit up and laptop booted normally. I then cleared cmos and hooked up the new screen again since i didn't clear cmos first time. It still failed. tested old lcd again, still operating normally. hooked up just the inverter to the new lcd to see if the backlight was working, it was. with just power going to new lcd the laptop boots normally and screen lights up. Tried hooking up just data cable to lcd and it wouldn't boot. Laptop also boots normally with no lcd connected and using external monitor. There was a 3rd connector on the back of the new laptop that the original didnt have (and wasn't listed in the part description) so i called the company and told them that i didn't think the lcd was compatible with my model laptop. They said the 3rd connector was for touchscreen and shouldn't affect functionality. I told them I wanted refund for the screen since i couldn't think of any other tests or configuration changes i could do to make it work. So i am now waiting for another lcd to come in. If anyone has any ideas of anything else i could have tried i would love to have more input.

    Here is the disassembly guide:

    http://www.gentechpc.com/Asus/W5F-Chapter 02-v1.1.pdf

It could be the power connector cable's pin assignment are different or the inverter board is not compatible, therefore, the power of the new LCD just won't turn one.

Same problem happened to me when I was trying to use C90S's LCD on S96J, even the connector of the power cable fits but it just won't turn on the screen.

Thanks for the guide Ken :)

I remember another forum member was asking me about the W5 disassembly guide recently. I'm sure this will help him out too.

Thanks for the guide. I dont think it was a problem with the inverter since hooking up just the inverter to the lcd powered the backlight and allowed the laptop to boot. I will let you guys know what the final solution is after I fix it.
