In my opinion, it comes down to whether you really prefer the style of the W3V over the 'future-proofness' of the W7J.

    W3V
    - Swappable Bay
    - Ultra looks
    - Higher battery life

    W7J
    - Newer Technology (Core-Duo)
    - Webcam
    - 1 pound lighter!
    - Perhaps cheaper?

could you please expand on this 'future-proofness'? thanks

Well, the W7 has a Core-Duo chip, which means it has dual processing. At current, dual processing is not really taken advantage of by many programs. However in the future, we may see this technology implimented in more programs which will truly increase the performance.

W7 also has some other newer technologies such as the new PCMCIA expansion slot.

Well, perhaps they're talking about the W3j and if so, this has been a question asked to us a couple dozen times a day since the W7 was revealed at Cebit. First, let's just consider the W3j is what we're talking about here.

Ok, the W3 is $300 more expensive. Most people would push the W3j would say it has the following over the W7j:

    1. an extra 3/4" of screen space
    2. a 256mb ATI x1600
    3. a brushed aluminum lid
    4. a gigabyte lan
    5. audio dj buttons
    6. 2.0ghz cpu
    7. ability to upgrade two ram slots

Now, for those who would say the W7 is a better choice.... They'd say it had the following over the W3j:

    1. close to a pound lighter
    2. smaller screen - therefore smaller footprint
    3. 1.3mp webcam built in
    4. serial ata hard drive
    5. easy to use volume wheel on the right of the of system
    6. $300 cheaper

Mainly, the for the people who say for on $300 you get a bigger screen and a bigger graphics cards....... but the same, if not more people would say that for the graphics card is still way more than enough for such a small system and the extra weight savings and footprint savings make the W7 worth more to them than the W3...... and saving a few hundred to get it is just a bonus.

Now, I was the biggest supporter of the W3 series for going on a year and half and I still love the form factor. The W7 though is a hot system in it's own right and I would have kept a black W5ae when we had them in, but I wanted a slightly bigger screen and preferred dedicated graphics so I could do all my work on the system..... and then comes the W7..... It's really the notebook for the person who couldn't decide between the W5 and W3 and although the choice between the W3 and W7 is a hard decision, pick something that's important to you - like screen size or weight or how heavy of a gamer you are... and you'll narrow it down quite easily.

For me, the way I pass around the W3 in my car and handle it on the edge, I'm constantly hitting the hotkeys on the left and right side of the system.... that honestly pisses me sometimes and although I love the W3 series.... in certain situations like that, I'd rather carry a W5 because it lacks those features and it's lighter and smaller........ so there's a perfect reason the W7 is my upgrade to my old W3v....... Love the W3 to death, but if they ended up making the 11" S6 with a 64mb ATI x600 - I'd be grabbing that at this point...... although the screen would be too small for my normal use, I'm just a huge fan of dedicated graphics getting in smaller and smaller systems.

I think a good question to consider is.. do you already or intend to get a desktop later? While being able to game on a laptop is great.. a desktop is still the best way to play games. If you do end up going for one.. you may end up enjoying the W7J due to it's portability.. one day its video card will be obsolete, and when it does, you still at least have a pretty portable machine!

    To Justin:
i was always wondering, how are the viewing angles between the W7 and W3J?

W3J is out of his price range, so its a debate over the W3V and W7J

i dunno if ur like me...but i havent played games on the pc that much since hl2 came out so while i do require a dedicated card in my laptop...id trade a more powerful dedicated card for a more portable laptop

at one time i seriously considered the w3j...but then asus announced the w7j which better fit my criteria

so like others have said...it boils down to how much u game and how much u value portability?
