Anyone have any particular opinion on the Asus W7S? Is it a solid choice of a notebook for general use? How is the webcam on it? I know it has dedicated graphics but is that really that much of a negative?

if you are considering w7s you shoudl consider f9sg-a1
yes it is smaller but it is newer more powerfull and less expensive. also has a full size keyboard and in reality the screen real estate is almost the same

That is definitely nicer, although I do not find it quite as attractive as the former...

I read the keyboard on the Asus F9Sg flexes quite a bit... is that a real negative for it?

To put it short, it's quite a good package for a 13.3" form factor notebook and would probably be much cheaper by now.

This notebook travels with me up and down the country, and has also been used on long haul plane flights. The thing I like is that it's nice to open the laptop and not have little squeeks or cracking sounds; it just feels like a solid notebook. But it is only flawed by the less reasonable battery life and heat problem that is more or less commonly associated with most of the notebooks produced by Asus (might be a little better with the W7Sg Penryn refresh which should be released soon)

The 1.3MP webcam works nicely and adjusts to different levels of light good and you can see sample pictures in my review. Though it's not as responsive as the VGA webcam on the MacBook Pros, I reckon it performs more or less average and should easily succomb to the demands of applications such as Skype.

The GeForce 8400M G dedicated graphics card works reasonably well but doesn't really have the raw power to play games at high resolutions with good textures. I have my W7S plugged to an external 20" monitor and it performs fine with it, even with the VGA cord.

Wow... doesn't sound like too decent of a laptop, then... that's too bad as I like the look of it. :(
