I'm looking to get my first Notebook, and came across the upcoming W90. It was either the W90 or m17x from Alienware, both up to my standards for enthusiast performance and screen size, although the m17x seems like you can customize it much more than the W90. Also, I think a 4870 X2 is a bit extreme, at least for a notebook - is there not an option for a single 4870? I don't want the runtime to be 10 minutes, lol.

Lastly, how customizable would the W90 be compared to say, the m17x?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Asus will not offer any customizable option, however resellers will often offer a few options such as OS upgrade/downgrade, HDD, optical drive and an extended warranty. The W90 will probably be offered with 2 or more SKUs, so there could be option where for different processors and/or GPUs, but as of right now, the actual specs and price are still not released yet.

See " W90 price" thread...... You certainly will pay more for the AW, and the W90 (a bargain) will provide a little more screen real estate. :)

Thanks, yeah I saw a 18.4" Laptop at Best Buy the other day and I have to say it's gorgeous, but the price was $2,199 CAD or something like that. So, the W90 won't have many options for customization huh? I'm all about the choices, especially when it comes to computer hardware. Battery life is and isn't a concern - it is when I have no access to a wall outlet to jack into, and it isn't when I'm at home in my room where there is plenty of it. The other problem is coolers - Enermax sells an extremely nice notebook cooler, but it's 17" unfortunately... would be hard to find one similar in quality and performance in a 18.4" flavor.

I've been trying gauge the price for the W90 because ever since I found out about it, I've been strongly considering this Laptop for sure. Would be nice to have even an estimated release date and price though =/.

    Cheers!
