OK, I've been kinda disappointed that the A8Jm was only WXGA (1280 x 800). But I find that some people actually describe 1440 x 900 as still WXGA instead of WXGA+.

If you look at this spec sheet for the Z62J : http://www.notebookforum.ca/phpbb2/docs/Z62J%20Datasheet.pdf
it specifies the res as WXGA but then in brackets 1440 x 900 !!!

So my question is, is what ASUS calls WXGA actually 1440 x 900? and in that case, the A8Jm might be 1440 x 900 ?

There is a chance. HOwever the only way to confirm this on the A8JM is to have someone chekc it in windows .

The Z62J spec sheet states that its WXGA but the resolution is explicitly stated as 1440x900.

EDIT: Actually in one of the threads in this forum, there is al ist of the Z62/Z96 models and the S62/S96 models. The Z62J is the only model with the checkmark under WXGA+

I think the A8JM could have the 1440x900 res, since the Z62J is pretty much the barebones of the A8JM.

BUT CONFIRM IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!

Wish it would be that way with the W3j...I'd be totally content with the screen res.

The A8Ja that is available in Singapore has a screen res. of 1280x800 and is labelled as having WXGA. It's certainly be nice if it actually had a WXGA+ screen, but that would be highly unlikely.

    WXGA on a 12", 14", 15" or 15.4" LCD is 1280x800 (or 1280x768).

    WXGA+ on a 17" is 1440x900.

If you see WXGA+ (that is the with the +) on any screen it will be 1440x900

Does the W3J have a 1280x768 or a 1280x800? I'd like to milk as much screen space as I can, and if the A8Ja has a slightly higher res than the W3J, I'd rather go for the higher res one.

I've asked a buddy of mine in Singapore to take a look at the A8Jm and confirm, hopefully he can get back to me soon :)... In the meantime, anybody else in Singapore mind going to take a physical look at the A8J series to confirm?

ok, well if ASUS is doing that screen swaping, then it can be possible that the A8jm would get a WXGA+ screen :D.
But originally it was spose to get a WXGA screen.

The W3J has a WXGA screen.

We will know in about 1-2 weeks.

    Thanks,

The A8Ja in Singapore is around S$2700 which is around US$1724. That should be excluding the 5% GST. I'll probably be going down to check it out again sometime over the coming week and will see if I can find out more.

    @Mystic,
When you mention WXGA, do you mean 1280x768 or 1280x800?

    Thanks!

hehe i knew someone would ask, that.

WXGA means both, the problem is which one does th A8jm come with? I dunno. In any case we are only talking about 32 pixels in height, i doubt that would be a factor in making or breaking this laptop.

hey BTW, go to your desktop, and right click, properties and then settings.
Then with your mouse, put the rest to 1280x768 and switch it to 1280x800 and compare the screen in that little box.

I just did it and well the 1280x768 look short and wider, while 1280x800 looks taller and less wide. hehe.

If you don't/can't see i will post a pic later, gotta go to the gym now.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

32 pixels is almost 1 extra row of icons on the desktop. I know I'm being picky, but I've already compromised on the resolution of the laptop I'm going to get because of the complete lack of high resolution laptops available here in Singapore and I want to get the most out of my WXGA screen.
