Hm, so the N82JQ won't have an ATI 5730?

Also, the N43 looks very promising. I wonder what "high-end" Nvidia 4-series GPU they're talking about?

Holy, I just realized that the N63 has "Full HD 1920x1080" as one of the possible configurations. Decisions, decisions.

N43JF has Nvidia 400 series graphics?? Anyone else catch that? Wonder what that'll be like compared to the ATI Mobility 5870.

n82 still seems to be the perfect one for me right now. 14" screen gt 335m graphics, and core i5? Not feeling too hot about that screen res though. I hope it has a backlit keyboard.

I have my eyes on the N82 and on the PL30JT which has an anti-glare display (...but why no LED-backlit...??). But i don't know about this slimtype thingy...sounds pretty fragile to me.

Edit: The N43JF would be even more appealing with the seemingly better design (only according to the pictures), and a better graphiccard. But Nvidia hasn't even announced the GT400er series...so i guess this notebook will hit the market at the end of this year.

I saw that too and almost think it's a mistake. Why would they put it in the N43 and not the G series. Seems like that's like tossing out your whole naming scheme.

The N63 Series is my next laptop. # pad, 1080p, aluminum brush instead of glossy plastic, usb 3, better speakers....
Still not sure which 13" series to go for. The ul or pl30jt or u33jc. I prefer the optical drive in the ul but I like the construction and of the u33 and pl, and the security features of the pl. Oh decisions decisions.....

Does anyone know what the deal is with the A- and K-series? As far as I can tell they're exactly the same.
I'm now looking at the A42JV/K42JV as well as the N82JV, which I was already interested in a while back. Sure, the N82JV has USB 3.0, but the A/K versions are likely to be significantly cheaper.

The N43JF is interesting, but I want a laptop soon, and it seems like it will take a while for the N43JF to come out.

Folks, remember that these laptops that I posted are ALL Asus laptops that are currently/soon available. Not every model will make it to the US/Canada. Asus likes to market different models in different countries and also at different times.

Damn N63JN... Now I found my perfect replacement for A8Js. Except.. I'm still wondering about GT335 performance.. It didn't perform quite as good as 330m according to notebookcheck.net benchmark regardless it has higher theoretical GFlops. Though.. it's not a fair comparison using a SU7300 processor machine with 720QM processor machine. Can't wait for this baby.

The A42jv with the Geforce 335m and Optimus looks sexy.

Although the A42 model with the Radeon 5470 looks nice too. It should support switchable graphics, too, right, since the Arrandale chip has its own IGP?

Its a pity that all the bamboo models don't have a decent video card. If they only had a 330 or 335, I'd consider them a serious contender for the Sony Z. I hope they at least have backlit keyboards.

Hopefully nobody cuts any corners on the Bang and Olafson...

The 5470 is a rather weak card; not much better than the GeForce 310M as far as I know. Besides that, ASUS would need multiplexers on the motherboard to support switchable graphics with ATI, unlike with NVIDIA Optimus.

Would the omission of gig ethernet in the N82 be a mistake also? The N80 and N81 appear to have had it, I can't see Asus not having that on the N82.

Originally I was set on the N61, but the 16" size is just borderline too large for me and the N82 is starting to look like a better fit. Assuming it has a gig connection.

Yeah... i was worried about that too.. seriously? No gigabit connection on the N43? Considering even most notebooks have one now, it's kinda inexplicable for a $1000+ (assuming) laptop to omit it. :( Hopefully just a typo...

Me too~ but what do you guys think about N63 compared to N82 ??

    N82 - 14" + GT 335 + optimus
    vs
    N63 - 15.6" FHD + GT 335

15.6" versus 16" is 20% of the difference between 14" and 16" in terms of diagonal screen size. I personally lump 15.6" and 16" together, as they are virtually the same. It's like comparing a heavyweight boxer and a featherweight boxer. You really can't. So comparing a 14" laptop and a 15.6" laptop is just as pointless as comparing a 14" laptop and a 16" laptop. There is virtually no difference in terms of screen size and weight between a 15.6" and a 16".

Does anyone know if Optimus is actually a hardware solution, or does it require drivers/software that only work in Windows? If it does have a driver component, does anyone know if it is included in the Nvidia linux binary drivers?

Still looking forward to the NX90 and the Bamboo series if the price is right. I just wish they could have put a 335 in at least one Bamboo model.

AFAIK the fermi card hasn't been showed off to public yet so i dont belive it will be released in march, notebook fermi will probably be out after the summer, more like fall '10 if Nvidia is as "quick" as they've been so far with releasing dx11 cards
Note: this is my personal thoughts and no i have no sources ;)

Hmm.. maybe I should modify my question

Because so many people are complaining about screens not being FHD, is the weight sacrifice worth the "better" resolution holding everything else constant?

It depends on your personal need. For me, having to carry a notebook everyday to class means that weight takes precedence over screen resolution. In any case, the lack of screen estate matters little to me as I can already fit two windows side by side at 1366x768.

Release date for the Fermi cards has been reported as March 26th. The early review I saw had it benchmarks equal to that of the ATI 5870 (desktop mind you). Keep in mind those were beta drivers but it is a tad disappointing that something that nVidia waited so long to release isn't grading out better then a card that's already been on the market 6 months.

I think a lot of people is taking "wait and see" stance like me at this time. We won't know if game developers gonna go for DirectX 11 features or nVidia CUDA/PhysX special capability. (Why ATI haven't done anything significant to their GPU up till now other than raw processing capability?)
