My daughter no longer needs this little laptop so it now belongs to me. In factory config it has a nasty virus called Vista, so of course I want to install something else. Can I go to Windows 7? I thought 32 bit Professional might be nice. I don't do games (in fact I won't put games on it or my son might use it), I just want to do some office and Firefox.

Will it run? Can I just install it or do I need to download lots of drivers? Is it a good idea or should I stick to XP?

yes it will run but you will need to install drivers. most of them will be vista drivers as they use basically the same coding. vista isnt actually all that bad alot has been fixed since its release.
