    Hi,

So basically, when I turn on my machine (it runs Win 7), instead of booting as normal, I get a white progress bar at the bottom of my screen, which fills up twice (labelled 'Windows is loading files'). I get a brief glimpse of the normal progress bar, then it goes into System Recovery mode, which does absolutely nothing. I'm forced to turn it off, and the same keeps happening.

I don't have a Recovery Disk (I tried making them, but it wouldn't accept any of my DVDs) - I know there's a Recovery Partition on it, but can't seem to access it via any of the Function keys. Safe mode does the same, the one where you boot with the last successful settings doesn't work, and I generally have no idea what to do!

Only had this laptop a month, very annoying!!

    Cheers,
    Joe

Thanks. None of the system repair options worked, so I tried re-installing (over the C Drive). I get to 86% on the Expanding Windows Files bit, then I get the message "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt of missing. Make sure all files required for installation are avaliable, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017"

    Cheers,
    Joe

It sounds like a HDD problem. That is if nothing is wrong with the dvd.
You can try to check that with SeaTools or any similar software...

    Good luck!

It actually just worked when I tried another DVD :)

Problem is, my Activation Code isn't working now, think I may have downloaded the wrong disk (Got Pro instead of Home Prem, idiot!!)!!

    Cheers :D
